During the month of November we have been busy preparing for Christmas by putting up decora- tions and having different groups participate. These groups have distributed gifts, had sing- songs and tea parties. We also appreciate the ministers Rev. Bauman and Rev. Schnir for coming out and having church services for November. Chief Irvine Bowes warns people to check their chimneys and make sure they are clean and safe before lighting up a wood stove or furnace for the winter season. Creosote buildups are common especially if the wood is at all green and especially with today's air-tight stoves. Buildups are most likely to form where the chimney temperature drops as the chimney enters the cold outside air. In addition, many old chimneys in houses may not be as safe as they look. A little preventative care can save a tragedy. ********** With the long string of senseless vandalism reported here recently it's good to know that something is being done. After a determined police investigation, three youths have been charged in connection with the destruction of the flag poles and flags at George Radford Construction Limited earlier this tall. A hearing has not yet been held in the case. ********** Blyth firemen answered a call Sunday night to a car fire in Walton. Damage was reported to be minimal.
