Obituaries
William Carter dies at 87
WILLIAM JAMES CARTER
William J. Carter of Blyth died in
Wingham Hospital on Thursday,
Nov. 14, 1985 in his 88th year.
Mr. Carter was born in Goderich
Township Sept. 25, 1898, a sou of
the late David Carter and Jane Ann
Taman. When a very small child he
moved to Blyth where he got most
of his education. In 1912 the family
moved to the Westfield area. On
March 23, 1927 he was united in
marriage to Viola Mary Wilson of
Auburn. They continued to farm at
Westfield until April 1950 when
they moved to Con. 3, East
Wawanosh where their son Gordon
now resides.
MARY SMITH MILLER SNELL
Mary Snell of Brussels died Nov.
11, 1985 at Wingham and District
Hospital. She was 88 years of age.
Born Mary Smith, she married
the late John M. Miller, who died in
1945, and John A. Snell who
predeceased her in 1973.
She is survived by two daught-
ers, Margaret, Mrs. John Cruick-
Mrs. Viola Carter passed away
Jan. 24, 1951.
Bill, as he was known by his
many friends, was a great sports
fan and was seen at most ball
games or hockey games.
In July 1964 he married Ella
Caldwell McGowan and the couple
have resided in Blyth since that
time. He was a member of Blyth
United Church.
He is survived by his wife Ella;
one daughter, Mrs. Stewart (Mil-
dred) Ament of Blyth; three sons,
Gordon of East Wawanosh, Robert
of Clinton and James of Walton;
shank, of Wingham and Isobel,
Mrs. Freeman Dickie of London,
four grandchildren and two great.
grandchildren. One brother, Tom
Smith. predeceased her.
The funeral service took place
Nov 14 from the Brussels Chapel
of the M. L. Watts Funeral Homes.
Rev. Charles Carpentier conduct-
ed the service. Intetment was in
Wroxeter cemetery.
one stepson, Kenneth McGowan;
two sisters, Mrs. Nelson (Zella)
Pattersons of Blyth, Mrs. Marg-
aret Lockwood, Blyth; and two
brothers, Russell of Seaforth and
Harold of Tillsonburg. He was
predeceased by two brothers, John
and Reginald and two sisters, Mrs.
Frank (Mary) Hollyman and Mrs.
Wm. (Irene) Knox, both of Blyth.
He is survived by 12 grandchildren
and 13 great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at
the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth on
Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Rev.
Kenneth Bauman of Blyth United
Church officiated. Interment in
Blyth Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers were five grand-
sons, Ronald Carter, Lloyd Carter,
Gary Ament, Donald Carter, Kevin
Carter and a neighbour Alex
Nethery. Flowerbearers were two
nephews, Kenneth Patterson and
Harold Knox.
Young man dies suddenly in Blyth

Arthur Wayne Heffron of Blyth Marg, Mrs. Jim Anderson of R.R.
died suddenly at his residence on 1. Londesborough. One brother,
