goal shortly after.
Kevin McArter scored two
straight goals assisted by Troy
Smith and Marty Rutledge to tie
the game at 3. Belmont scored the
go ahead goal but Jim Bender
assisted by Kevin Ruttan and
Rollie Smith tied the game at four
to end the first period of hockey.
Belmont kept Brussels off the
scoreboard for the remainder of the
hockey game. They added three
goals in the second and two in the
third period to win the game at 9 - 4.
A little smaller ice surface, incom-
plete passes and a squad that
seemed to be just one step behind
the opposition (a well-balanced
fast-moving hockey club), brought
about the Bull's first defeat of the
season. The pressure should be off
the shoulders of the players now as
the inevitable has happened and
they can continue on their way.
Injuries have plagued the team
throughout the season with four
players currently sitting on the
sidelines, leaving them short-
handed on the player's bench.
They have succeeded well at
carrying the load. The Juniors will
be on the road this Friday visiting
the Clinton Mustangs for an 8:30
p.m. game and will be at home to
the Mitchell Hawks on Sunday
afternoon at 2 p.m.
A double-header on Wednesday
found the Brussels Bantams host-
ing visitors from Blyth. It proved to
be a good even game of hockey with
the first two periods of hockey
being scoreless.
Brussels managed to score at the
11:26 mark of the third period and
held on to that lead until the last 10
seconds of the game when Blyth
pulled the goaltender for an extra
attacker and scored to tie the game
at one. Dean Nicholson scored the
Brussels' goal with assists by
Steven Wheeler and Mike Fraser.
The Bantams home game for
Wednesday night has been can-
celled because of exams.
The Midgets hosted Normanby
for the second game of the night
and picked up a 6 - 2 victory for their
efforts. Mary Rutledge and Shawn
Bremner scored two goals each for
the home team with assists going to
Andy Nethery, Dean Lawrie and
Jim English on the Rutledge goals
with Lawrie and Wayne Jacklin

getting the assists on the Bremner
goals. Sean Kieffer assisted by
Paul Coultes and Dean Wheeler
assisted by Sean Kieffer scored the
remaining two goals for Brussels.
NOVICE TEAM
Friday night had the Novice
team visiting Milverton where they
picked up a 7 - 5 victory. Matt Lee
lead the Brussels attack scoring six
goals with Tim Machan getting the
seventh. Assists went to Brett
Clarkson and Ryan Finch.
The Atom and Peewee A teams
were at home against Hensall on
Friday night. The Atoms were
defeated by the visitors 5 - 1. Brett
Lee assisted by Ross Machan
scored the only goal for Brussels.
The Peewees luckily came out on
top of the visiting Hensall squad by
a 5 - 4 score. Hensall led the game 2
- 0 at the end of the first period.
Steven Fritz assisted by Scott
Johnston and Jamie Nicholson and
Dan Beuerman assisted by Brian
McArter came back to score for
Brussels and tie the game. The
third period found first one team
and then the other taking turns
scoring the goals with Brussels
managing to get the extra and win
the game 5 - 4. Dan Beuerman,
Scott Bremner and Steven Fritz
scored the three third period goals
with assists going to Bremner,
Fritz and Darren Johnston.
The Peewee "B" game for
Saturday afternoon was cancelled
by the visiting Durham team
because of freezing rain.
The Atom team travelled to
Huron Park for a Saturday after-
noon game. Grant Martin scored
the first goal for Brussels unassist-
ed. Todd Machan assisted by Brett
Lee and Ross Machan assisted by
Brett Lee scored the next two goals
for Brussels. Brett Lee completed
the scoring unassisted to finish the
game at 4 - 1 for us.

TRY HARDS
The C.K.N.X. Tryhards were in
town on Saturday night to play the
Minor Hockey coaches in a fun
game of hockey that I believe
ended in a 4 - 4 tie. Such things as
extra long hockey sticks, the happy
hooker line and whipped cream
pies (we hope Paul) kept the
audience entertained. The Try-
hards donated an autographed
goalie stick which Gwen Raymond
won. Minor Sports donated a
hockey stick valued at $55.00 which
was won by Lois McCall of
Brussels.
A family dance was held in the
auditorium following the hockey
game which was well attended.
Thank you to all who supported the
events and helped to make it a
success with special thanks going
to the C. K.N.X. Tryhards who take
the time to support the local
communities in their fund-raising
efforts.
Remember the Figure Skating
Club with their annual dance on
Saturday night when music will be
provided by "Loose Change".
