Speaker talks about
problems of South Korea
Crokinole
held at church
On Friday, Nov. 15 the Sunday
school crokinole games saw 12
tables in play.
The largest family playing was
that of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Burgsma. High man was Shane
Taylor; high lady, Kathy Kennedy;
low man, David Bylsma; most
20's, Dennis Wilts; lucky chair,
Jason Konarski.
The W.I. Cultural affairs meet-
ing was held Nov. 13 at 8 p.m:
Prior to the meeting the 4-H club
held a successful bake sale. The
W.I. meeting was opened by
President Helen Lawson, reading
"November", the Opening Ode,
Mary Stewart Collect. All were
welcomed and a large number of
guests were present. Roll call
answered by 18 members, "A
phrase in another language".
Minutes of the last meeting and
the treasurer's report were read by
secretary-treasurer Alice Buchan-
an. Correspondence included a
letter from Huron Day centre for
Homebound. It was moved to
donate $25 to Huron Day Centre. A
letter was read about a home
decorating course to be held at
Huronview, December 4 and 5.
Anyone interested should let
Helen or Alice know. Marjorie
Duizer thanked the •group for
support of the 4-H club. It is time
for christmas gifts for shut ins.
Names should be given to Hazel
Reid or Helen Lawson.
Isabel Colson introduced guest
speaker, Kathrine McKnight, who
taught a handicapped girl in
Korea. There, they have no
pension funds or homes for the
aged. They want sons not daught-
ers. A child born not perfect is put
in an orphanage. Kathrine told of
their religion. She had on display
some of their crafts, weaving and
brass, all very creative and artistic.
The speaker was thanked by
Congratulations to Cliff and
Ruth Shobbrook on their 50th
wedding anniversary on Saturday,
November 16 when a large number
of relatives and friends attended
Open House in Londesboro Hall.
Shane Taylor had the misfortune
to have his collar bone broke at a
hockey game in Blyth on Monday,
November 11.
United
Church news
Greeting on Sunday morning at
the Londesboro United Church
were Rev. Dave Snihur and Edythe
Beacom. Ushers were Tracie Sal-
verda, Julia Shaddick, Sandra and
Julie Merner. Rev. Snihur wel-
comed all. The service involved
reception of five new members by
transfer by Rev. Snihur and Clerk
of session, Gordon Shobbrook. All
welcomed were Ed and Mary
Salverda; Doug and Karen Dolm-
age, and Connie VanLoo. Next
Sunday is Communion Sunday.
Children's time included a song,
"Thislittlelightof mine" and a
story. On display was a muppet
turtle named Timothy. Junior
teacher was Kim Wright. Lisa
Duizer was organist and choir
director was Marsha Szusa. The
sermon was "Christians making
waves".
Hattie Wood and presented her
with a gift. December 11 will be the
Christmas meeting. The program
included a reading by Margaret
Taylor, "Sandy and Jeannie". The
meeting closed and lunch was
served by Beryl Reid, Hazel Reid
and Isabel Colson. Thanks was
expressed for the invitation to the
meeting by Lenore Davidson,
Blyth; June Peck, Auburn; and
Brenda Radford of Londesboro
U.C.W.
Explorers
show off toys

Expedition #5, was held Novem-
ber 12 in the church.
The meeting opened with an
apple treat. Members sang the
Explorer song and said the Explor-
er purpose. Christy Scott and Erin
Horbanuik said the Explorer Em-
blem. and Kerrie Szusz said,
"Follow me".
Nineteen members were pre-
sent for roll call. Members brought
their own favourite stuffed ani-
mals. The next roll call will be
naming their favorite day of the
year. The next meeting will be
Tuesday, November 26.
For crafts, members made a bird
magnet. The story was called "The
Scholarship". The meeting with
with singing of "This is my
Father's world."
Mrs. Jean Scott was guest along
with several ladies at the home of
Vi Howes, Clinton on Friday
afternoon celebrating Rosie Arm-
strong's 80th birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Scott, Billy
Jim, Christie, and Shannon and
Mrs. Jean Scott were Saturday
night dinner guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Terry Morrison and
family of Elmira.
Cindy Swan of London spent the
weekend with her mother Beth
Knox and attended the 50th
Anniversary of her uncle Cliff and
Ruth Shobbrook on Saturday
night.
Mrs. Vic Stackhouse spent last
week with her daughter Laurie and
Fred Ranter in Woodstock when
their son Frederick Craig was born
November 6, a brother for Jenni-
fer.
