Baptism held at Knox United
Since the third Sunday of each
month is set apart as "Children's
Sunday", November 17marked
this occasion at Knox United
Church.
The sacrament of baptism was
also celebrated at the service,
which was conducted by Rev. John
G. Roberts. Mrs. George Procter,
organist, accompanied the child-
ren's choir as it sang "I Believe'',
then they occupied the centre front
pews to receive the message which
was relative to "Baptism".
The order of baptism as present-
ed in the Service Book was used to
receive Scott Michael, infant son of
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Folkard into
the church.
Many relatives, friends and
neighbours gathered in the school
room of Knox United Church,
Belgrave on Saturday to help
celebrate the 90th birthday of Mrs.
Lila Higgins which falls on Mon-
day, November 18.
Mrs. Higgins was born Novem-
ber 18,1895 and has lived in Morris
Township all her life. Her parents
(deceased) were Jeremiah
Brydges and Eliza McCrea.
On September 1, 1915 Lila
married Robert Higgins and they
farmed on the 3rd concession of
Morris retiring to the village of
Belgrave 1953. Mr. Higgins died
June 21, 1974.
Mr. and Mrs. Higgins had a
family of 5: Mrs. Roy (Jean)
Pattison, Belgrave; Miss Margaret
Higgins, London; Alvin Higgins,
Wingham; Mrs. Jack (Ruth) King,
Wingham and Jerry Higgins,
Stratford.
There are 11 grandchildren, two
step grandchildren and 13 great
grandchildren.
A family dinner was held in her
honour at the Turnberry Tavern on
Saturday evening following the
birthday party in the church.
Mrs. Higgins is very active with
her needlework, baking and flow-
ers and is a life time member of
Trinity Anglican Church, Bel-
grave.
Relatives from a distance at-
tending the birthday party were:
Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Brydges and
Jeremy Campbell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Campbell, a
kindergarten student at East
Wawanosh Public School, was the
top sales person in the cookie and
milk campaign.
For the top sales person in his
class he chose a hat and back pack
for tops in the whole school. He got
to cut a piece off the tie of Mr.
Stevenson who is principal of the
school.
A special thanks to everyone

Jeremy.
Friends and neighbours of this
community extend congratula-
tions to Mrs. Lila Higgins who
celebrated her 90th birthday on
Monday, November 18.
Miss Dorothy Higgins spent the
week with Mr. and Mrs. William
Patrick and Mr. and Mrs. Carman
Farrier, Toronto.
Mr. Douglas Bieman of Kincar-
dine spent the weekend with his
mother Mrs. Agnes Bieman.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Bradley of
Lucknow were dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. George Michie on
Sunday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bryans of
Brussels were dinner guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Johnston on Sunday evening.
Mrs. Fred (Ann Wightman)
McGrath and Timothy of Vermi-
lion, Alberta have been visiting her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar
Wightman.
A family dinner was held on
Saturday, November 16 in the W.I.
Hall, Belgrave. Those attending
were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore of
Stratford; Mark and Curtis Moore
and friend of Toronto; April Moore
of Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. Don
Metcalfe and girls; Mr. and Mrs.
William Rae of Hanover; Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Montgomery of Guelph;
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Chapman
and family of Bolton; Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Hamilton and family; Mr.

wide area joined the family for an
"open house" on Saturday night.
At the Canadian Cross-Country
Championship recently held in
Etobicoke, Kelly Walsh of Kitch-
ener placed first in the Mite girl's
division, running the 1,000 metres
in a time of 4.06 minutes. Kelly
coached by her father, David
Walsh of Kitchener, is a grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton
Walsh.
Mrs. Fred McGrath and Timo-
thy of Vermilion, Alberta returned
home on Wednesday afternoon
after spending a week with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar
Wightman and other relatives in
the area.
Euchre
results
Nine tables were in play atthe
weekly euchre which was held in
the W.I. Hall, Wednesday even-
ing, November 13.
Winners were: high lady, Mrs.
Gertrude Allen; low lady, Mrs.
Lorne Jamieson; novelty lady,
Mrs. Olive Bolt; high man, William
Black; low man, Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor (playing as a man); novelty
man, Albert Cook.
There will be euchre again this
Wednesday starting at 8:00 p.m.
