East
Wawanosh
council
NEILG. VINCENT
REEVE-TOWNSHIP OF
EAST WAWANOSH
I am 33 years of age and have
been a life-long residentof East
Wawanosh. I am a graduate of
Centralia College in Agricultural
Business Management. After col-
lege, Iwas employed by U.C.O. for
6 months, in management training
before purchasing S1/2 lot 31
concession 11 East Wawanosh. In
1977, I purchased part of lot 37
concession 13 consisting of 197
acres. On this land base, my wife
Joan and I operate a 50-cow dairy
farming operation.
I served as a municipal councill-
or from 1974 until December 1982
when Iwas elected reeve. I have
served on various committees in
the community including the
Wingham and Area Fire Board, the
Wingham and Area Recreation
Board and the Belgrave Arena
Board.
'believe that the last 11 years
experienceon township council
have given me the insight and
awareness of the structure and
workings of municipal councils.
The council of the township has
developed an efficient, cost con-
scious road building and mainten-
ance program. This type of pro-
gram mustbe maintained to supply
the level of service that we have
grown accustomed to.
At county council level, I served
on the social services committee
for 2 years being chairman in 1984.
The welfare expenses decreased
during this time. My fellow county
council members selected me as
the new representative for the
Huron County Planning and Devel-
opment Committee during 1985.
This has give me further insight
into zoning administration of
which the township will be process-
ing early in 1986.
As a fellow ratepayer, it is my
aim to get the best value possible
for our municipal tax dollar. The
working relationship that I have
with the different Ministries,
Departments and County Council
allows me the knowledge of the
availability of different types of
subsidies and grants and the
effective ways to obtain them. For
these reasons, I respectfully solicit
your support for the betterment of
the township of East Wawanosh.
DONALD SCHULTZ
COUNCILLOR
I am 49 years of age and am a
beef, cash crop and custom farmer
on the third concession of East
Wawanosh.
I have served as councillor for
five years and have never missed a
council meeting and I have attend-
ed all my committee meetings on
the Blyth and District Fire Board
and Auburn Hall Board.
I would like to see the roads
improved in places to cut down on
winter maintenance for snow
plowing, etc. This takes fuel and
when spring comes the money's all
gone and there's nothing to show
for it.
I'd also like to see increased
developement without interfering
with agriculture.
FRED MEIER, SR.
Fred Meier, Sr., has been a
resident of East Wawanosh Town-
ship for 20 years, operating a 375
acre dairy and cashcrop farm along
with his wife Hanny, son Fred Jr.
and daughter-in-law Linda.
He was born, raised and educat-
ed in Switzerland graduating from
college in dairy science. After
working five years as a cheese-
maker in Switzerland, Fred emi-
grated to Canada in 1952. During
the time Fred spent in Canada until
he bought his, farm in East
Wawanosh, he worked at the Blyth
Farmers Co-operative as a cheese-
maker, for one year, and also
managed a farm in the London area
for six years.
Previous to Fred's involvement
in township council, he was a
councillor of U.C.O. Branch Bel-
grave for 12 years, a director of Gay
Lea Foods Co-operative for seven
years, the last three as second
vice-president of the board of
directors. Fred is also an active
member of the Blyth United
Church as a choir member and in
the past on the board of stewards.
Fred feels that the most impor-
tant issues at stake are listening to
the people and presenting their
ideas in council; fair government
and budget responsibility.
Hullett
council
DOUG BELL
CANDIDATE FOR HULLETT
TOWNSHIP COUNCIL
In order tobe.progressive any
municipality cannot rest at status
quo. As I see a need for controlled
growth I have decided to enter the
race for council. Also I noted the
apparent apathy since after the
initial nomination date there was
one position on council left vacant.
My initial intention is to offer the
voters of Hullett a viable alter-
native and if elected I will attempt
to guide the township along with
the rest of council to a state of
"Retentive Progression" in other
words keeping all the good of what
has made Hullett the strong rural
community it is today while
encouraging innovations to help
keep our-young people interested
in remaining or returning to the
community.
There are no main divisions or
issues in Hullett at present other
than the continued need for fiscal
monitering.
On the face of it, having been a
life-long resident of Hullett Town-
ship, born on the 13th concession,
presently employed in the town-
ship (for over 19 years) .and
working in an agriculture related
field, there is no doubt as to my
understanding of the rich heritage
of Hullett which should comp-
ensate for my lack of previous
political experience.
