BY GARRY YUILL On Wednesday, October 16, Brussels Public School had Blue Jay Spirit Day. It was organized by our student council to encourage school spirit. The students and teachers came to school wearing blue and white clothing, and Blue Jay buttons, caps and emblems. We all sang the Blue Jay song and we had a very chilly ball game at noon in which the All Stars (students) defeated the staff team 10 runs to 2. The day was good fun and I hope future days planned by Student Council will be just as successful. NEW TEACHER BY JOHN LO WE Miss Blake is our newest teacher at Brussels P. S. She enjoys teaching at Brussels Public because she likes the students. Miss Blake is teaching kindergar- ten, music, and Grade 7-8 history. This is her first year of teaching. She went to the University of Western Ontario in London for three years, and Brock University in St. Cathar- ines for a year to Teachers' College. She came from Dunnville, which is near Hamilton, where both of her parents are teachers. Now, while she is teaching in Brussels, she lives in Seaforth. ATTEND DAM OPENING Grade 6-7 and 7-8 (55 students in all) were invited to the official opening of the Brussels Dam on September 4. Our M.P., Murray Cardiff, Calvin Krauter, the Reeve of Brussels and members of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority spoke that day. After the speeches they uncovered the plaque, cut the ribbon and freed a number of tagged waterfowl. They gave away free pins and balloons. It was an interesting afternoon.
