Carol Seers honoured

Out-of-towners visit in Auburn
About 40 people attended a
community shower held for Carol
Seers Wednesday evening at
Auburn United Church.
Friends and relatives were wel-
comed at the door by Anita Hallam,
Grace Johnston and Julia Glenn.
The basement was beautifully de-
corated in silver and royal blue by
Shirley Luna, Elaine and Hazel
Craig. Corsages were pinned on the
bride to be, mother and mother-in-
law by Anita Hallam, Tina Empey
and-Helen Johnston.
Nancy Park got everyone started
The organ prelude was played
Sunday by Mrs. Gordon Gross. Lori
Millian and Elliott Lapp sang a duet
"Softly and Tenderly" with Mrs.
Barry Millian as pianist. Junior
Congregation was in charge of Joyce
Bean, Anita Gross, Julia and Leona
Cunningham and Lori Armstrong.
The minister Gary T. Shuttle-
worth chose for his sermon "Then
Shall The End Come". Offering was
received by Allan Webster and
Lawrence Plaetzer.
with a sing song, followed by two
contests by Julia Glenn and Grace
Johnston. Contests were "Floral
Wedding" and "Soap Contest".
Anita Hallam read a fitting poem of
"Love".
The bride was then asked to come
to the front with her mother, Maxine
Seers and mother-in-law-to-be Koby
Reinink where she was presented
with lovely gifts. Elaine Craig placed
bows and flowers on a somba. Carol
was given a pair of garden gloves,
plants, soil and baskets etc. to help
her in her career. Lunch was served
by friends. Carol thanked everyone.
Next Sunday will be Anniversary
Service with guest speaker Rev.
Gordon Pickell of Goderich.
Unit II of United Church Women
will hold their meeting Tuesday,
October 22 at 8 p.m.
Rev. and Mrs. Earl St. John of
Dundas and Mr. George Durnin and
Dwayne of Nashville, Tennessee
visited last weekend with Mrs.
Violet Durnin.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Craig and
family spent Thanksgiving weekend
at their trailer and visited with their
parents also.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gibson and
family of Wingham, Peggy Strong of
Gorrie, Mike Chalmers of Blyth were
Thanksgiving visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Orval McPhee.
Mr. and Mrs. Mel Simmons of
Calgary visited her mother Mrs.
Jean Postill for the past two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Worsell and
Graham and Dorothy Grange visited
in London on Saturday evening and
attended the birthday party for
Monique Morris.
Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp return-
ed on Tuesday from their trip to Italy.
Ar. and Mrs. Jim Lawlor, Andrew
and Alexandra visited with his
parents on Sunday, the occasion was
to celebrate Andrea's 6th birthday.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Lawrence on Sunday were Kathy
andBarry Austin and twin boys of
Dungannon; Madeline, Keith, Jas-
on and Ronnie Kerr, Irene Dicky and
Gary Collins all of Goderich; Aud-
rey, Johnny Rutledge, Donna and
Gordon Powell, Lynn Wall and
family of Wingham. They were
celebrating Tom's birthday.

The Auburn Women's Institute
met October 15 at the Community
Hall.
The 4-H Girls had a bake sale
under the leadership of Miss Linda
Cunningham and Miss Annette
Losereit. They made beautiful de-
corated cakes and several kinds of
pies to sell. Twenty-two members
and four visitors soon bought the
baking. Linda Cunningham told
about her 14 members who complet-
ed the "Baking Course" and their
neatly assembled note books were
on display. Lorraine McClinchey
thanked the Institute for their
support.

Robin Lyon who have a new baby
boy. Rev. Lyon is pastor of Auburn

all. Mrs. Frank Raithby and Mrs.
Leonard Archambault are to receive
their life member certificates. Co-
convenor Mrs. L. Plaetzer of Resolu-
tions read nine resolutions from
Home and Country Winter 1985.

year"? Mrs. Lloyd Barth gave a
-report on the District Rally. Hostess-
es were Mrs. Tina Empy, Isabelle
Turner and Mrs. Major Youngblut.

Euchre party
held
On Tuesday night, October 15 the
firsts euchre party was held at
Auburn Community Hall. The winn-
ers were: high lady, Mrs. Clarence
Allin; low lady, Lillian Leatherlan;
high man, Ted Mills; low man, Len
Shobrook; novelty, Mrs. Len Sho-
brook. Euchre parties are every
Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
Senior Citizens attend rally
Mr. and Mrs. Orval McPhee, Mr.
and Mrs. Emmerson Rodger,
Dorothy Grange, Marjorie McDoug-
all and Lillian Leatherland attended
the 10th Fall Rally of District 8 of
Senior Citizens on Thursday held at
Stanley Township Complex at
Varna. There was a business
meeting first, followed by games of
euchre, bridgt and shuffleboard
with prizes given and lunch was
served to all.
U.C.W. sees use of computer
in classroom
Mrs. Dorothy Grange and Mrs.
Robert Worsell conducted a Thanks-
giving Worship at Auburn United
Church when Unit I met last Tuesday
evening. Miss Tammy Shuttleworth
sang a solo "Seek re First"'
accompanied by Marjorie McDoug-
all. There were 14 members present
and one visitor.
Mrs. Lillian Hallam was the guest
speaker and gave an informative
presentation of how computers are
used in the school. She demonstrat-
ed some ways the computor is
helpful educating those students
with special needs - that Bill 82 now
requires being taught in local
schools.
The president Betty Marsh con-
ducted the business. Shut-in visits
were arranged as was a volunteer for
craft help at Friendship House. The
next general meeting will be on
November 27. A social and fellow-
ship time followed the meeting with
Mrs. Hazel Craig, Dorothy Grange
and -Shelley Worsell as hostesses.
