a lucky month for the Abbott,
far Mrs. Cliff Abbott, one of the
510 winners, also wnn a record
player at Exeter, and her daugh-
ter won a e10 voucher a week
ago, and Miss Lina Abbott won

made, Lucan's new fire engine
was on display acroet the street.
At night, the council entertained
at the Shamrock Gardens, some
15 members of the municipal
department.

Jack Park, in his column last
Saturday, paid high tribute to
Clint Hodgins, formerly of
Clandeboye, who once hitch -hiked
to the rare track, and now
cruises around in a Cadillac.
Back on the farm till after
Chrietmae, but on New Year's
Day hp will leave for Orlando,
Fla,. to train 32 horses for the'
1959 sewn.
Alex Parsons also pays high
tribute to Mr. lindens who
helped train some of his horses.
Hodgins began his career
as an Amateur jockey at fall
fairs, making his debut as A
driver at Exeter 30 years ago.
He has owned a few good horses,
some outright and some on
shares, the best being Prince
Adios, which died in its prime,
and another was Proximity,

good to me but like any other

Vesper Service
The regular meeting of the

At United Church
A quiet double -ring wedding
was solemnized in the Lucan
United Church at 3.30 p.ni., Sat-
urday. December 2n, when the
Rev. Edgar Roulston united in
marriage, Mrs. Jean Jimmo Mee
Smibert), Lucan and Cpl. Alkurie
Davidson, of Centralia. The bride
is
Ilia daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John Smibert, of Lucan, and the
groom is the son of the late Mr.
and Airs. Davidson formerly of I
Winnipeg.
The bride was gowned in a
blue chiffon, waltz -length dress, '
blue feather rap and wore a cor-
sage of red roses.
Her only al.tenrtant was her
sister, Mrs. Bud 'Cooper, of
Lucan, who Moen a brown taf-
feta waltz -length gown, pink
feather cap and corsage of pink
roses,
The best man was the brirle'e
brother, LAC join, Smibert, now
stationed at Toronto.
After a reception at the Glen
Allen, the bride changed' to a
greeit suit with black accessories
and corsage of pink roses for
traveling.
The young couple will make
their home in Exeter.

At a recent executive meeting,
held at the home of the president,
Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, the United
Church Woman'Association
made plans for 1959,
Mrs, Erie Young was appoint-
ed_
Christian Citizenship 'secre-
tary, and Mrs. David Park,
Christian Stewardship secretary.
The January meeting, in
charge of the executive, will be
held at 2.00 on Wednesday after-
noon, Jan. 7, when a guest
speaker will bring a New Year's
message.
A letter over the president's
signature was approved to he
sent to every woman in the con-
gregation, outlining the aim and
object of the Woman's Associa-
tion, and enclosing suitable
literature.

form of a Christmas party in the
Veiled Church basement last

Santa Visits
Area Youth
Santa Claus came to the chil-
dren of Lucan last Saturday
afternoon when the Liman Branch
of the Canadian Legion and
Auxiliary, sponsored a Christmat
party in the Lucan Community
Memorial Centre.
Prior to the arrival of Santa
Claus, Mrs, H. T. Bond, as MC,
presented a program consisting
of dances by Barbara Cooper,
Nancy Hardy, Norina Davis,
Susan Kennedy and Leslie Car-
ling, duets by Marsha and Jo-
anne Ribenn and accordion num-
bers by Larry Lewis,
Miss Muriel Carling assisted
by Marsha and Jo -Anne, led in
the singing of Christmas carole.
Norma Davis made the draw
for the Auxiliary's doll and out-
fit. She drew a ticket purchased
by Mr. A. L. Kernick, owner of
the Lucan Cold Storage.

Resident Here
Harold Lawson, 53, of Strath-
roy, formerly of Lueau. died
suddenly in Strathroy Sunday,
Deceither 21.
He lay at rest in the Murdy
Funeral Home, Lucan, unell 2
p.m., Tuesday, December 23,
when the Rev. R. B. Cumming,
of London, formerly of Lucan,
assisted IV the Rev, Edgar Raul.

concluded funeral services. In-
terment was in St, James Ceme-
tery, Clandeboye.

lived for a number of yeaes on

of London.

At 7.30, on Sunday evening,
December 21, the assist-
ed by the Explorers, held their
Annual candle -light vesper eery -
ice, with 'Alm Charles Sovereign
in cheep. She was assisted by
Mrs. G. E. Nicholson and also
Airs. Calvin Itaekett, one of the
Explorer counsellors, in the read-
ing of the Scripture.
