Alan Blye who sings on 'Sat-
urday Date' is one performer
who didn't have to stand in line
for a break in network tele-
vision. "I came to Toronto for
a week's visit wth an old radio
buddy of mine from Winnipeg",
he told me, "I got off the plane
and my friend was waiting. I've
got an audition for you in two
hours, he told me. My clothes
were all crumpled from being
packed so,I had to rush out and
buy a suit and then buy some
sheet music. I sure didn't have
any time to be nervous.
I was auditioned and was
signed for a guest shot on `Coun-
try Club' and a few days later
they called and gave me a guest
shot on 'Here's Duffy'. But he -
fore I could appear on either)
show they gave me the regular
spot on 'Summer Showtime'. I
was signed for the season and
before that expired. I was signed
for `Saturday Date'. I've sure
been lucky."
It might sound like luck the
I way Al tells it but if he hadn't
put in years of training and had
several years of radio experience
in Winnipeg his auditions could

orthodox Jew, Alan tells me that

did with any boys that he felt
had promise. It's thorough and
extensive training. Of (he boys

Alan is a second year student
in architecture at the Univer-

able to keep singing until he
graduates at the end of a five

if it doesn't interfere with my
career as an architect", he said.
Last week could he called
