Friday of this week will he
nomination day for the council
of Hay Township in the after-
noon, when h public meeting will
be" held and the usual business
transacted.
As there was ay election held
last year for these positions like-
ly the council will be returned
by acclamation. But it will be the
privilege of the ratepayers to
decide.
In the evening, the nominations
for Zurich police trustees will be
held.
Successful Bazaar
The bazaar which was held in
the Parish Hall on the Blue
Water highway last week wes
successful despite the rain and
broken weather.
Many prizes were git en to the
- winners of the lucky draws
among them being Peter Jef-
fery who won both first and
third prize-

One of Zurich's old landmarks,
namely the old Zrnimerman home
on -Goshen street north, has been
' taken down to the ground level,
as workmen took the frame
budding apart and ail that is now
' left is a pile of lumber.
This old house probably dates
back a hundred years. it was one
of_the older buildings, which are
nearly all replaced with new
ones.
4 Bag. Three Deer
At Melgrum Bay
Messrs. Ross Johnston, Robert
McKinley. Ed Steinbach, and
Leonard Prang returned home
after a pleasant session of sev-
eral days of deer hunting, in the
Meldrum Bay district.
They brought home three deer
and enioyed eating the venison
steak dinner.

and a first-year medical student
at the 'University of Western On-
•tario, was awarded a scholarship
of $100, given by the Moroni
County Council. for the highest
standing of a man in any course.

Rader of Dashwood spent a week
hunting and fishing at Bayfield
Inlet. They stayed at the cottage
owned by Ward Fritz,

were treated to a venison steak
dinner.

large black bear, the latter being

Goderich, and formerly of St
Joseph, died on Friday, Novem
her 21, in London, after a shor
illness.
She was the former Anni
Bedard, daughter of Mr, an
Mrs. Simon Bedard, of St. Jo
seph. Following her mnarriag
they lived in St. Joseph unti
moving to Goderich five year
ago.
She was a member of St
Peter's Roman Catholic Church
the Catholic Women's League
and the Altar Society.
Surviving besides her husband
are three sons, Aleide, Clinton
Patrick and Clement, Brantford;
three brothers, Albert and
Charles Bedard, both of Zurich
and John, of Forest; five sisters

Wallaceburg: Mrs. Alfred (Sara
Houle, and Mrs. Orville (Maggie)
Iioule, both of Chatham; Mrs
John (Tillie) Rau, London, and
Mrs. Norman (Caroline) Over
holt, Zurich, and four grand-
children.
Requiem High Mass was sung
at St. Peter's Church on Monday
at 9 aaa.m.,with Rev. Father J. P.
Gleanson officiating. Interifient
was in St. Peter's Cemetery, St.
Joseph.

Making Progress
• Good progress is being made
in the erection of the addition
• to Charles Thiel's grocery store.
) The walls and roof are com-
pleted and carpenters are doing
• the interior work. When finished
it will make a fine addition to
this place of business,

vidge of Detroit were weekend
visitors with the Jeffery family
on the Blue Water Highway south.

and Mrs. Sylvanus Witmer motor-
ed to Woodbridge to visit with
relatives. They also visited in
Toronto.
Mrs. Earl Heywood of Wing -
ham was a visitor with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thiel
and other relatives in the com-
munity,
Miss MMda Surerus of Toronto
spent the weekend at her home
in Zurich.
Mr. Kenneth Weido, who is at-
tending Teachers' College in
London, was a visitor at the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Weide.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cress -
man and family of Moorefield
were visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gingerich,
Miss Mary Geiger of London
was a visitor at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert
Geiger.

Lucknow were guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ward
Fritz last week.

had been taking care of her

in Wallaceburg and her sister,

her Mother.
Mr. Garfield Denomme, who
has been working at the Cen-
tralia airport, has accepted a
position as a carpenter at the
Goderich Salt Block.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ginge-
rich and family accompanied by
their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Amos Gingerich spent the week-
end at Pigeon, Mich, with rela-
tives and friends.
Mr. John Geoffery of the 14th
concession, who was visiting in
Detroit, was taken ill in that
city and taken home. He is now
well on his way to recovery,
Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Flem-
ing and daughter Linda of Mt.
Carmel Were. visitors at the
home of their parents on the
Blue Water Highway.
The heavy rains of the past
week have been very beneficial
to the farmers. It has enabled
theta to finish their fall plowing
which has been held up due to
the land being hard and dry.
Sunday visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Leroy Thiel were Mr. and
IMS. H. fiodge and daughter
and granddaughter, ads of Lon-
don.
Mr, and Mrs. Ward ,Fritz spent
the weekend with relatives and

Last Wednesday evening, about
seven o'clock, Mrs. Matilda Mac-
Kinnon, of town, in some way
fell down the cellar steps in her
home, and in the tumble received
a nasty cut over the left eye
which bled profusely.
Her neighbor, Miss Inez Young.
blue, who came to make a call on
Mrs.' McKinnon, found her lay-
ing on the basement floor in the
midst of a pool of blood. She
immediately called for help, and
Dr. Klahsen was summoned.
The Westlake ambulance took
the patient to the South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, where she is
convalescing nicely.

A number of friends gathered
at the home. of Mr. C'laytnn Ort-
wein to help him celeb;'lte his
50th birthday. During the course
of the evening a gift was pre-
sented to =Clayton from the gath-
ering.

Chooses New Officers
The annual meeting of the
Zurich branch of the British and
Foreign Bible Society was held
at the Blake A. Mennonite
Church on Sunday evening, with
the pastor, Rev. E. Gingerich, in
charge,
The chorister, Mr. Stanley
Gingerich, led in the singing of
two' hymns. Rev. 0. Winter, pas-
tor of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, led in prayer: The Scrip-
ture lesson was read by Rev. A.
Martin, pastor of the Zurich
Mennonite Church: Two numbers
were rendered by an octette,
comprised of Misses Rebecca
Steckle, Grace and Joy Erb, and
Mrs. Steve Gingerich, Messrs.
Stanley Gingerich, Calvin Ginge-
rich. Irvin Martin and Elton
Bender.
The president of the Zurich
Bible Society, Mr. Menno Steckle,
gave a short address, urging ,all
to give their hearty. support to
the work of the society, Mr. Neil
Gingerich presented the treasur-
Attended Funeral
Mr. and Mrs, Ward Fritz at-
tended the funeral of the late
Dr. Harold Pink, in London. Dr.
Pink, 55, died suddenly in Cleve
land, Ohio.
Mrs. Pink was the former
Hazel Fritz and spent her child-
hood days in Zurich. A son,
George Edward, Toronto and a
daughter, (J`udith) Mrs. Peter
Weggeman of Sarnia, also sur-
vive.
Girl Guide News
The Girl Guides held their reg-
ular meeting in the town hall
last Thursday night starting
with horse-shoe formation. The
girls went to their patrol corn-
ers and studied their second
hand tests.
Carol Erb is the new Lieuten-
ant of the group.
The next regular meeting will
.be held on Thursday night.

Mrs. Leonard Wagner accepted
a position in the Ruston Trans-
port, She was formerly occupied
at the Zurich central office.

London last Friday, The latter
two went on to Toronto where

pronounced the benediction.
After the service, a film was
shown. This was entitled "The
Leaves of the Trees." It showed
how the Scripture verse is
proven to be true. "The leaves
of the trees were for the healing
of the nations."
