FUN IN THE FOREST — Seventy-five Scouts from the
Huron District enjoyed a three-day camporee in tire new
public park in the Pinery over the weekend. Their activi-
ties included competitions in cooking, tracking, first aid,
obstacle races, compass work and camp site improvements.

YOU're not as resoureeful as 75 ,
Boy Scouts who attended the
Lake Huron camporee in the
Pinery over the weekend. They
were put to the test on these and,
a number of other projects and
most of them came through with
flying colors.
The Friday -to -Sunday outing,
blessed with good weather, gave
the young outdoorsmen an oppor-,
(unity lo practice much of the
craft they've learned during the
last several years in the'revital-
ized Scouting program in the
Lake Iluron district. It was the
third annual camporee for the
area.
The hays, camping in patrols
of eight, were on their own and'
competition stimulated their ef-
forts to be good campers. Twenty
leaders marked them on every
activity.
Patrol emerging with the top'
marks for the weekend was from
RCAF Station Centralia "A"
Troop and led by PL Keith Mor-
ley.
Exeter and Lucan patrols
placed well up in the competi-
tion with "B" ratings.
Camp chief was Ralph Swell-
zer, Exeter Scoutmaster, and his
deputy was Hal Hooke, the local
assistant SM. Other officials in-
cluded Glen Lodge, Goderich, dis-
trict commissioner; Ben Cook, of
RCAF Centralia, district SM;
Ernie Dempster, also of Central-
ia, assistant DC in charge of
training, and A. J. Sweitzer,
Exeter, chairman of Huron Dis-
trict Council.
The callipers came from troops
in Exeter, Lucan, Centralia and
Clinton RCAF, and Goderich.
Friday afternoon, after school,
Scouts were. driven to the Pinery
entrance, where they were given
instructions on how to find their
campsites.
Saturday morning, the Scouts
worked on camp site improve-
ments, such as making wash
racks, food storage facilities, and
tables. Each patrol erected a
gate to the entrance of its camp.
Saturday afternoon, they.par-
ticipated in a group of projects
including cooking the egg, cross-
ing the river, first aid, tracking,
and a compass exercise.
Each patrol prepared a skit for
the Saturday night campfire.
