Grand Bend held their first sum-
mer social on Saturday evening
in the Legion Hall with about 150
in attendance. Mr. James Wells
of London, past president, opened
the evening with a singsong,
after which the Parkhill Junior
Square Dancers gave an exhibi-
tion of dancing with their eight-
year-old caller,
Mr, Wells then called on Mrs.
Fred Sweitzer of Kitchener to
act as mistress of ceremonies,
and John MacDonald of Grand
Bend led in another singsong.
Mrs, Sweil.zer read two humor-
• ous letters, after which .the au-
dience was treated to special
' music by Mr. Len Burt, man-
ager of the Organ Department
.of the H.eintzman Company, on
the Hammond electric organ,
and Mr, Verne Raynor on a
Heinlzman piano, both instru-
mems being loaned by the Heintz -
man Company of London, for
which a hearty vote of thanks
was tendered to that company
by a show of hands.

was held for the Beauty Queen
for Labor Day, the contestants

Summer School
Held At Centralia
During the last two weeks of
July, ,Catholic children of RCAF
Station, Centralia attended reli-
gious instruction In the J.A,D.
McCurdy school. In the absence
of Father Proulx, station chap-
lain, the classes were organized
by Father Cahill and his semina-
rian assistant, Mr. D. McGraw
and by Father Kelly of Mount
Carmel.
Children numbering 168 from
Kindergarten age and up at-
tended the summer sehoot and
were divided into four groups
taught by Mr, McGraw and. three
Ursuline sisters from London:
During the two week period
the classes were held froni 9:30
to 11.30 a.m. At a brief recess
milk and cookies were served
by members of the Catholic
Women's League of which Mrs,
L. Howard is president.
A closing benediction was held
in the chapel the last morning
of the school,
