CALL OR St U.5 TWAY" Exeter Farm .Equipmeir - LPHONE jorinyn .EXLIER iiuron county hag directors met June 13 to outline their cam- paign plan for the coming vote. A county •committee was ap- pointed and it is -their respon- sibility to see that committees are established in each town- ship. This vote presents the greatest challenge that has faced farm producers. If everyone will give a little effort to this campaign there will be a very large per- centage- voting and success is certain. In Huron, we are not . interested in having 66 and 2/3 in favour; we want 85r.%, in favour. Furth ere arrangements were made for conducting the Huron ' County Federation of Agricul- ture worship service, July 13, at the United Church summer camp, Goderich. Huron County Federation of Agriculture held its directors mecting June 9 witit President Winston Shapton presiding. We are glad to report, that we had several members from the !townships attending along with the county directors, We hope ; that they found the meeting in- ! Wresting and hope more will ; come next time. Warren Zurbrigg, county mem- ber to the 0.F.A., reported on the last meeting in Toronto. The finances of the organization were discussed and it was felt that a study of this problem should be made. It would be helpful if commodity groups could develop some standard of contribution rather than the grant system which varies from year to year. ;Where counties have difficulty :in meeting their dues it seemed that better organization at town- Iship level would eliminate this :problem. . In discussing the stabilized prices, Mr. Zurbrigg reported considerable disssa tisfaction. Ilowever it is becoming more and more apparent that farmers will have to do a better job of establishing their costs of pro- duction before much can be ac- complished either with supports i or deficiency payments. In reporting for the poultry • producers, Carl Hemingway stated that the Ontario poultry producers executive was in- formed that in order to get the promotional plan accepted by' the Farm Products Marketing Board a petition endorsing the plan "%Atilt have to be signed by at !least 60 of all poultry pro- ! lucers, based on the last census figures. ! Since 23e1:- of the listed poultry producers in Huron county have less than 50 hens and since about of the poultry producers in Ontario have less than 100 hens this 60'7- of all producers seems unrealistic. There are several counties with almost 200 pro- ducers with less than 8 hens. 1 I doubt if these producers have ' any interest in the price of eggs. There was also some difference , of opinion as to the meaning of other clauses in the petition. Re- presentatives of the executive will meet with the minister and.
