Major 'winners of last year's
beef feeder calf club will be de-
fending their championships at
this year's ;Hensall Spring Fair
and implement Show.
Bill Strong R.11. 2, Dublin, who
copped three trophies including
the T -A award for finish and the
W. G. Thompson and Hensall Co -
Op awards for showmanship, is
in the runnink again this year.
Hugh Scott, Cromarty, who
won. the Mickle trophy with the
best gain, and George Townsend,
who captured the B of M plate
for junior showman, also are
among the contenders.
This year's club boasts 25
members, smallest yet, but of.
ficiais indicate the competition
will be keen and, what's more
important, the profits will. be
larger. They expect this will at-
tract more members for next
year.
The club, which imported
western cattle for previous feed-
ing projects, changed its meth-
od of operation this year. Each
:member was responsible for the
buying of his own calf and the
society advanced up to $100 to-
wards payment. The loan will be
repaid when the calves are sold
after judging at the fair.
In addition to the trophies, the
members vie for $100 in cash in
four different competitions -
finish, average daily rate of
gain, junior and senior show -
m anship.
This year's members, the
weights of their calves at pur-
chase time, and the price they
paid for them, are:
Ken Vivian, 470, $100; Bruce
Coleman, 335, (had to be
shipped); Donald Carter, 660,
$110; Tom Papple, 433, $98,70;

Little Johnny, whose father
was a college professor, asked
his mother why the grass turned
green in the spring. Thinking
that the son's question deserved
a thorough answer, including
the processes of plant photosyn-
thesis, storage of starches, etc.,
the mother replied, "I'm busy
now. Your dad's a professor of
agriculture. Go ,ask him."
"Aw,'1 yawned Johnny, "I
don't want to know that much
about it,"
