Fame recognition, he is still
remembered by the old-timers
in this area as a star of the
1 xCter team when hockey
thrived in the old dance rink
here. He played forward nn the
club, along with his brother.

He was not a member of the
fatuous i+xeter - Zurich team
which highlighted early hockey
history in this area but he could
have been. He went west in 1020
and, although officials here wired
him several times to come back,
he never did,
Out west, be played for a num-
ber of top teams and later be-
came a success as .coach. His
first coaching position was with
the Regina Aces, a senior club.
In 1945 be became vice-presi-
dent of the Canadian Amateur
Hockey, Association and two
years later • was elected Presi-
dent.
At that time, the Regina Lead-
er -Post paid hila the following
tribute; "The real hlr. Hockey:
Most centres have their own Mr,
Hockey but the real one is in
Regina. Alan W. Pickard is pres-
ident at the C.A.H,A. and con-
trols more hockey players than
any man in the world. The Re-
gina school principal rose
through the ranks as pla$'er,
coach and executive to attalh
the highest honor amateur hock-
ey can pay.,! '
He represented the C.A•H.A.
at international amateur hock-
ey conferences in Europe.
The other eight leen who were
named to the Hall of Fame this
week as "hockey builders" were
Senator Danat Raymond, the
tate George McNamara, George
Dudley, the late James Norris,
Sr., Conn Smyth and Lloyd Turn -
Selected as players were Frank
Boucher, King Clancy, the late
Sprague Leghorn, Alex Connell,
Red Dutton, Frank Fredrick-
son, Frank Fayston, Herb Gard-
iner, George Hay, the late Dick
Ervin; Ching Johnson, Duke
Keats; Hugh Lehman and Paddy
Moran.

The funeral was held on Satur-
day from the Manley Bailey fun-

ciating minister was D. W. Glen
Harris. interment was in the
evergreen cemetery.
