We're back again, after a brief sojourn. What Tor? Why a to sing few praises a ;'' v i ai es of 1 1 course, along with presenting some bald facts, Lucaa has "pound for pound" and "khan for man", the best !yes, best) peerwee hockey team n anada total weight ctt the forward line is 215 pounds. Add to that 235 pouflds, sunt total of tWo defense and a goalie and you have Soo pounds of super hockey talent, There was some talk of other learns in the Goderieh tourney being "iron men", but outside of a few worried parents, most everyone seemed to averibok the fart that a handful of Lepre- chauns were the real "men of steel.,, 1f I were asked to select any one star of the show, I'd have to name 15 of them, because l'm !Sure you'll agree it takes some pretty fine courage .and :sports- manship to dress game after, game and hold down the bench. `But our boys were a cheerful lot, with an ever -ready word of encou theiceargement, for the man on Hats off to Bill Smith (the coach and boy behind the plough). hill is one of those rare lads, who not only plays a smart game of hockey, but has the abil- ity to teach and make it thor- oughly comprehensible to the younger element, What's more, they think he's tops. Two of our outstanding players this year, a determined and lightning little goalie, Ed Harri- gan, and a plucky little patrol- man, Larry Lewis, dressed but never made the ice at Goderich last season. Brian Smith and Ward Hodg- ins, who didn't pass muster enough to make the chosen entry for last year's Goderich entry, came into their own with some outstanding plays this year, We are looking for big things from these two in the future. ,t Gary Revington and Don Coughlin, played their third and final series at Goderich this year. What an impression they made as captain and assistant, respee- tively. They will undoubtedly be a real asset to the Bantams next winter., along with Paul Steacy an up-and-coming lad, who un- fortunately was prevented from appearing in the last game, due to a hospital date. • Rouger Black was also in the tournament for the third year running, but we're happy to say he will be with us another year. There is a star performer from whom we expect something spec- tacular next term. I have been asked many times in the past week who is on tap for next year; so here is the line- up as I see it, after spring,stock- taking. Several of the old Lucan pioneer names come to the fore - two Hodgins', two O'Neil's, three Hardy's, one' Harrigan (at least) and a Lewis, Smith, Hick- son, Black, Kennedy, Young and Ready. How's it look to you? Good I'm thinking. Also, last but not least, Bill Smith has consented to coach again. Lucan residents will be pleased to note that 13i11 signed a '53-59 contract, for a mere 50 percent increase in salary. What did he get before? Just several votes of thanks. Well, enough of the Leprechauns. Now for the forgotten Lucan teams, who brought further rec- ognition to our town, The ban- tams, coached by Tom Pickle, and the midgets, under the guid- ance of Don Hodgins, were two teams who received very little in the way of assistance and en- couragement from Lucan and dis- trict people. The bantams reached the On- tario seini-finals, to be defeated by Mildmay, but big Bill Neil, Jerry Harrigan and Hugh Conlin (number one forward line) and defence men Murdy and Kehl, with goalie Bill Darling, tirade Tom Pickles' team a strong con- tender. As for the midgets, well, 211 they did, was fight their way to the Ontario finals. After a very worthy battle, they were beaten by Keene. Prominent names in the midget line-up were as fol- lows: Barry Black, Paul Conlin, Hugh Conlin, Vic Neil, 13111 Chow- an, Norm Sell, Keith O'Neil, Joe O'Neil. This same group are going to one clay produce record crowds in- the Lucan Arena again. To those able coaches, Toni Pickle, Don Hodgins and Bill Smith, go our many, many thanks. • Personal Items I1 Mrs. Harold Butler ,,)r, who , Mr. Lawrence Grose, has Our - has been on the sick 'fist return-, chased the farm, owned by leis o h .d u •e on A onda , uncle, ih ed t t e _r . stoi i a la e A •, E. y i t Ix finest f,<u t ' as clerk. g 1 and together- with his father, dire, Harry Atkinson of London 1 Mr. Earl Grose spent a ,few days i is spending a few days with Mr- last week cleaning til; the house. and Afrs.{ kTaiold Corbett. t Air. and Mrs. Fred Ford and Airs. k rank Booth who iias , Robert of Detroit wore weekend been spending the winter with' guests of Mrs. Irene Coursey, Burlington relatives spent a few Miss Marie Lewis spent a ;few days last week with ]Mrs, -H.
