Spectal thanks to WASH CLOTHS, 101/2 x101/2 EXTRA SPECIAL so TV Feature Stars Editor Perspective portrays 'the role of a weekly newspaper in com- munity affairs as seen in a story about "The Editor", to he tele.' wised on CFP'L T -V on Saturday, I 'March 8 at, 4,30. Just how, and why, a weekly newspaper gets involved in local 1 ' issues 'becomes apparent in this ,story which begins when some citizens agree to s-acrifice the local park to encourage new in- dustry. The controversy finds the weekly editor in the thick nf it, and not entirely through choice. Unlike the editor of a big city daily, the weekly editor takes a big chance when he takes a stand nn local issues. Flis readers expect him to know everyone and everything, and rely on him to fight for those things they consider to be for the good of the community. The story of the park in Alid- dle town is typical of situations which arise in many Canadian communities served by weekly; newspapers. it provides an op- portunity to examine the close bond of common interests he- tween the staff of a weekly newspaper and the readers who may freely praise ar criticize but always look forward to then weekly news. "The Editor" is a 30 -minute filmed production of the Nation- al Film Board for the Perspec- tive series on television. and Milstan Construction. Although there has been no application for building permits • to council, there is no difficulty expected in proceeding with this development. Mayor R. E. We will have to apply to the Department for; information and guidance." He was .supported in this stand! by all of the members. Contractor Whilsmith argued that the !engineer had said in his letter to Minna that the con- struction of one or two homes r would not affect either the drain- ' age or road situation seriously and he requested council eon-; skier his application. jack Weber appeared before council in regard to address of his new lant nn Highway R3, the securing of mail boxes and the removal of snow. iTown Topics Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carroll ! were in Woodham over the week.' , end owing to the death of the; 1 former's father, Mr. Robert Cor Mr, Gordon Appleton of town; I is in Victoria Hospital, 'London tIkthere He will undergo surgery, ' I Mr. and Mrs. Doti Gravett t spent the weekend in Kitchener with. the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.'
