This news inay be a great relief to a number of ,forwards on enemy clubs as Bob was a rugged blueline performer and not many player: went through a game without feeling the effects of at least one of his checks, but to .the local club it pro- vides one big headache. .After speaking with DR. GANS and finding out that Bob has hung up his skates for six or eight weeks and for possibly the balance of the season, we find the locals have their work cut out for them in trying to find a replace- ment. It's not easy to find a pian the calibre of COATES and "RED" LOADER will have to keep a keen eye out for a suitable replacement. Any volut - teers * •* •Jl- -k * * REFEREES IN RARE FORM—Over in Zurich last week when the MOHAWKS staved off a deter- mined ZURICH HOCKEY CLUB for an 8-5 victory, we thought the refereeing was the best we've had this season. Both officials kept the game well in hand all the way and missed few offsides, if any. Although the arena management had some trouble with burned -out lights before the game, a fallen ladder and some ruts in the ice, the proud town of ZURICH should be pleased to note that they had JERRY OLINSKI officiating at their opening game of the season. OLINSKI, as you know, tooted the whistle in the NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE the last few seasons. GLEN COLE, of Stratford, Jerry's partner, was right on the bit which made a real gauze to watch from the fans' viewpoint. It's too bad that all games in the WOAA could not be handled by such inen as these. In Lucan on Monday and in Clinton on Saturday officials let the players rough it up to the point where fights could have broken out all over the ice. They're beginning to Brack down in the N.H.L. and we think it's high time they did the same thing here. SWAN CLEANERS HERE SATURDAY — Be- fore everyone starts thinking that this paragraph sounds like a laundry service plug, we'd better explain. No, MR. PRESZCATOR, we're not giving plugs to any other dry Cleaning businesses around the country.. It's just that we're trying to tell the public whowill be playing the EXETER MOHAWKS this Saturday night in the local arena at 9:00 p.in. SWAN CLEANERS is the name used by a KITCHEN- ER INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE HOCKEY CLUB and it will be here to tangle with the tribe. Some old faces will be seen with this KITCHENER club as JOHN TRENDELL, who wore the old No. 6 sweater for the MOHAWKS in '55-'56, will be leading the opposition along with our close friend BILL WHARNSBY, We're told this team has a lot of spark in it as the players have plenty of experience behind them. RON COLLINS, who GAR BAKER will• • undoubtedly know, has played with PERTH PANTH- " ERS in. the Scottish Hockey League overseas. Several of the other boys played on first class Kitchener teams over the years, so the tribe may have a real fight on its hands. SWAN CLEANERS are presently tied for first place in the Kitchener Industrial League with the "Fightin"' IRISH but expect to have sole possession shortly. Hinmhl •*• * * * * THIS 'N THAT -Harold Ribson, our old stand- by in the IRISH settlement to the south, told us that he has the WATFORD PEE WEE HOCKEY TEAM lined up for an exhibition game on FEBRU- ARY 1. As you know, Watford is the club that claims the only ALL -GIRL LINE in hockey. 'Their appearance in ,Lucan will hark the end of Minor Hockey Week at Lucan , , . ILDERTON WILDCATS will tangle with the IRISH this Friday in what looks to be a real fight. Each club has won a game to date and with a player or two from each town play- ingfor the opposite side, things are apt to flare •at any time - .. More from "Ribby": : Lucanminor teams are looking for exhibition games on Saturday afternoon or evening. Anyone interested is asked to call the Lucan arena manager. Edward and Zurich were the other vis- tims •of the tribe's drive to hold down sole possession of first place in the loop standings. Lucan Irish pulled the upset of the week when they spanked the Colts 10-5 right in Clinton to hand the second -placers their second loss in 10 games, Don Fletcher gained league renown in this one with a six -goal out- burst, Pt. Zurich Flyers dropped an 8-5 game to the Exeter Mohawks at home and them ran into a stone wall in Lucan in getting trounced 14-1. The two losses left the t. Flyers down in seventh place. Number 11 From Irish Exeter's high -flying Mohawks rang up victory number 11 on the Cash register in Lucan on Mon. day night with a hard-earned 10- 7 decision over the "fighting" Irish but the win proved to be a very costly one indeed. The Mohawks lost the services of defencenlan Bob Coates just after the game started when the rugged performer caught his skate in the boards behind the Exeter net and broke his ankle, He will be lost to his club indef- initely. Although Mohawks ran one de- fencenlan short and were tagged with two 10-milmte misconduct penalties by officials Russ Evon and Gus Boussey, they still man- aged to emerge with their elev- enth straight victory in as many games.
