Host To Exeter
The First Hensall Guide Com-
pany entertained as their guests
the Exeter 'Girl Guides to a
Christmas party in the school-
room of the United Church on
Wednesday evening. Fifteen
Guides from Exeter attended.
Following a recreation period
the girls exchanged gifts and
luncheon was served, convened
by Miss Peggy Goddard and
Miss Mary Scane.
Children's Christmas Party
The annual Christmas party
for the children of Hensall and
community is scheduled for Sat-
urday at 2 p.m. Santa Claus
Will be present and will present
treats to the children, after
which a free movie will be pro-
vided in the town hall,
The Kinsmen will be in charge
of the films and the affair is
sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce and Legion Branch

Investigation of records by
Clerk J. A. Paterson has re-
vealed that John Lavender,
26, is not the youngest coun-
cillor in Hensall's history as
was generally believed last
week.
W. C. Spencer, who was
elected in 1931, was 24 when
he took office.
John Lavender was named
by acclamation last week to
the fourth seat on council,
succeeding Jini Sangster,

UC White Gifts
Assist Koreans
White Gift service was held
in the United Church on Sunday
morning last. The offering, Lite
largest in years, amounted to
2378.00 and is to go to the chil-
dren and widows of Korea and
Eastern territories, .and some to
Northern Home Territories,
Paul Anthony, infant son of
Mr. and Mrs. David Kyle; Deb-
orah Pearl, daughter of Mr, and
Mrs. Wayne Smith; Linda Lee,
daughter of M.r, and Mrs, George
Beer; and Brian Arthur, son of
Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Traquair
of Woodstock, reeeived the rites
of baptism, conducted by Rev.
C. D, Daniel.
For his sermon topic, Rev.
Daniel spoke on "The Wise
Men's Gifts". The choir render-
ed appropriate music under di-
rection of S. Ronnie with Miss
G. Laramie at the church organ,
The church was filled for the
special services.
In charge of the Christmas
decorations in the church were
Mrs, Jack Simmons, Mrs. Gor-
don Munn, Mrs. Don Joynt and
Mrs. Ken Elder.

Members of Hensall Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary chartered a
bus to London on Iv'onday to give
a Christmas party to the resi-
dents of the Red Cross Eric
Reid Old Soldier's Home, Lon-
don.
Each of the thirty residents
were presented. with a Christ-
mas parcel. A period of carol
singing was enjoyed and refresh-
ments served.
Conduct Service
For Wm. McEwen
Funeral service was conducted
on Friday afternoon, December
6, from the Ball and Mutch fun-
eral hone, Clinton, for the late
William McEwen, R.R. 5 Stan-
ley Township. The Rev. A. J.
McKim of Wesley -Willis United
Church was assisted by the Rev.
D. J. Lane, St. Andrew's Pres-
byterian Church and Dr. Charles
Mustard, Toronto.
Pallbearers were former neigh-
bors, Jack Glenn, Gordon Man-
ning, Donald Glenn, Stanley
Jackson, William Stirling and
George Cantelon. Flower bear-
ers were Robert . Glenn, Ray-
mond Cantelon, Thomas Mur-
phy and Edward Broadfoot. In-
terment was in Baird's ceme-
tery.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Belle MacDougall, and
his brother, Rev. J. McEwen,
Midland; three sisters, Mrs, J.
McFarlane, Clinton; •Mrs, R. Y.
McLaren, Hensall; and Mrs. W.
Speare, Highgate.
