The Anglican Men's Club ef
HolyTrinity church held their
opening meeting in the Parish
ioU last Monday evening, when
officers were elected for next
year.
President is Austin Hodgins;.
vice-president, Fat Crudgc; sec -
treasurer, F. W. Hovey; group
leaders, Harvey Hodgins, Jack
Steacy and Alan Scott.
The guest speaker was Herb-
ert Herring of Segar Hall, Lon-
don, who spoke on the place
men have played in the churchs'
history from the days of the
Apostles.
During the business session
plans were made for the selling
of Christmas trees as a means
of raising money for the Men's
Club. The trees are now in Mr.
D. A. Ashworth's show room.
Rev. J. P. Prest, Jack Murdy,
Clarence Haskett, Clare Stanley
and Erwin Scott comprised the
lunch committee.
Future meetings will be held
on the third Monday of each
month.

Places Second
Twenty-two pupils competed in
the County of Middlesex public
speaking contest at Mountsfield
School last Saturday. Dee Hall -
Holland, 13, of Masonville School,
captured the gold medal and will
compete in the district finals to
be held in February.
Lucan had two entries, the win-
ners in the recent Biddulph con-
test, Ilene Donaldson, daughter
of Mrs. Harold Cobleigh, of the
Public staff, and Hugh Conlin,
whose teacher is his mother, of
the Lucan Separate School, Ilene
came second.
Prizes were awarded "by Wil-
liam Thomas, M.P., William
Stewart, M.L.A„ Harry Allen,
M.L.A. Mrs. C. R. May substi-
tuted for Harry 0. White, M.P.,
who*was detained in Ottawa.
Judges were Miss Eleanor
Glover and Archie Carnohan, of
the London Teachers • College,
and Paul Hyatt, a student there.

Monday evening, with F. W. 'Hov-
ey named as president to replace

on Wednesday with a good at-
tendance. The countrymaster

Traffic Lights
At Elginfield
Following close on the death of
Gordon Rutherford, 22, Saturday
morning and the near accident of
Charles Rudd, on Sunday, traf-
fic lights were installed at the
intersection of N. 4 and 7 high-
ways last Monday.
•Rutherford, agnompanied by
Pte. John Black, of London, met
his death in a car -truck collision
near Elginfield. Black was taken
to Westminster Hospital with
head injuries. Both men worked
at the army's No. 27 Central Or-
dinance Depot in London.
Charles Matthews, 31, of Wind-
sor, driver of the large transport
truck, escaped injury. The car
was hurled into the ditch with
pieces of wreckage scattered for
100 yards. Though the truck
swerved onto the shoulder, Mat-
thews was able to bring it under
control. A number of accidents
have, recently occurred at the
Elgisofield intersection.

The Lucan Lions Club held its
first 1957 fowl bingo in the Stan-
ley Hall last Wednesday night.
Clare Stanley and • M. Kelly
were the most lucky, winning two
turkeys each.

Robert Murray, Bud Cooper,
Mrs. Irving Gibson • and Mrs.
Harrigan.

Mrs. Harold Hodgins was host-

Churchs' Woman's Auxiliary

of her handicap is a most faith-
ful church worker. For months
she has been growing African vio-
lets for the bazaar, and Satur-
day's storm did not keep her
home. All afternoon she sat in
her wheel chair and sold her vio-
lets. Her nurse, Mrs. Smith, as-
sisted with the wrapping.
