President is Austin Hodgins;. vice-president, Fat Crudgc; sec - treasurer, F. W. Hovey; group leaders, Harvey Hodgins, Jack Steacy and Alan Scott. The guest speaker was Herb- ert Herring of Segar Hall, Lon- don, who spoke on the place men have played in the churchs' history from the days of the Apostles. During the business session plans were made for the selling of Christmas trees as a means of raising money for the Men's Club. The trees are now in Mr. D. A. Ashworth's show room. Rev. J. P. Prest, Jack Murdy, Clarence Haskett, Clare Stanley and Erwin Scott comprised the lunch committee. Future meetings will be held on the third Monday of each month. Local Speaker Places Second Twenty-two pupils competed in the County of Middlesex public speaking contest at Mountsfield School last Saturday. Dee Hall - Holland, 13, of Masonville School, captured the gold medal and will compete in the district finals to be held in February. Lucan had two entries, the win- ners in the recent Biddulph con- test, Ilene Donaldson, daughter of Mrs. Harold Cobleigh, of the Public staff, and Hugh Conlin, whose teacher is his mother, of the Lucan Separate School, Ilene came second. Figure Skating Club Elects Officers Mrs. B. J. Roberts was named president of the figure skating club at the meeting in the Com- munity Centre Friday evening. Traffic Lights At Elginfield Following close on the death of Gordon Rutherford, 22, Saturday morning and the near accident of Charles Rudd, on Sunday, traf- fic lights were installed at the intersection of N. 4 and 7 high- ways last Monday. •Rutherford, agnompanied by Pte. John Black, of London, met his death in a car -truck collision near Elginfield. Black was taken to Westminster Hospital with head injuries. Both men worked at the army's No. 27 Central Or- dinance Depot in London. Charles Matthews, 31, of Wind- sor, driver of the large transport truck, escaped injury. The car was hurled into the ditch with pieces of wreckage scattered for 100 yards. Though the truck swerved onto the shoulder, Mat- thews was able to bring it under control. A number of accidents have, recently occurred at the Elgisofield intersection.
