Mr. and Mrs, Smith of Detroit were Saturday visitors with the latter's brother Mr. and Mrs. M. Eliott. Mrs. Elliott returned home with them for a few days visit, Mr. m W , Haddock received word last week of the death of his sister, the late Mrs; Ida Powell in Boston, Mr, and Mrs, S. Sorensen of Chatham, Mass., were weeken guests with Mr. and Mrs, Alvi Essery. Mrs. Ernest Abbott left o Sunday to spend the winter wit her sister-in-law, Mrs. Fairhall in California. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan Blanche and Marilyn. were Sun day visitors with Mr. and Mrs Burton Morgan in St. Marys Mr. Morgan conducted the ser vice in the Baptist church there Mrs. E. Knight is spending some time at the home of her daughter in ,London, d n n h Scouting 1 Trail :Ey SMIIPPER After two' or three .attempts this year we are going to try to keep this column regular for the remainder of the Scout year..It should be a bit easier now' that the cold weather 1s settling in. We'B probably spend a little more time m at home. Our .membership is up again to 27 b o s which w h makes us consider adding a fourth patrol to the troop. This, however, is still in the future. The three patrols we do have battling t 1111 are a t g the patrol competition out toe to toe. At the time of writing, Doug Jermyn's Eagle Patrol is ahead by .a very slight margin. Five more proficiency badges have beenawarded to Wayne Bowen, Jim Sweitzer, -John Mc Naughton, Doug Penhale and Eddie Roeloffs. Next week at our troop meet- ing we are having an examina- tion for the fireman badge and several boys are planning on try- ing their _despatch rider badge this month if the weather holds out. You can see that the boys are quite active in the badge de- partment. John McNaughton recently qualified for his second class badge. We now have over a doz- en boys wearing this badge. On November 2, Cub Leaders Harold Sissons and Jack Van Goozen, Scouters Ralph Sweitzer and Hal Hooke, and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Sweitzer and Mr, and Mrs. Gerald Godbolt attended the Bluewater Region Scouting Conference at Owen Sound. A very educational afternoon was followed by an evening dinner and a. square dance. Plans are benig considered to hold the con- ference in Exeter next fall. He had farmed in McGilliv. ray most of his life and had spent the past few weeks at the home of .his daughter, Mrs, Mor- gan, Sarnia, In' 1898 he married Ethel Maud Ellwood of McGillivray. He was a member of ,Clande- bpye United Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Man Carter (Rhoda) Lan- sing, Mich,; Olive, Sarnia Gen- eral Hospital; Mrs. Elmo Mor- gan (Elsie) Sarnia; one sister, Mrs. Isabel McRann, Syracuse, N,Y. and two brothers, Sidney, Birch River, Man., and Gordon, Lucan.
