'Best Ever'
Although He'nsall's mill rate
is the highest_ in its history, tax
collections this year are better
than ever before, Clerk J. A.
Paterson reported to council
Monday night, •
Only $2,500 of the total roll of
$53,000, or about four ..and one-
half percent, is outstanding.
'This is the best it's ever been,"
said the clerk.
Council has. requested retain-
ing fees for the services •of the
fire •brigade from four neighbor-
ing townships, The amounts are:
Tuckersmith $125, Hay $125, Hib•
bert $75 and Usborne $75.
'A payment of .$50 has been re-
quested from H. R. Arnold,
Stanley Township, whom the.
brigade assisted in a recent
fire..
Council is giving consideration
to a request from the Legion
for a .rebate on the taxes paid
on the branch's building. A dele-
gation from the branch present-
ed the request to council.
Bylaws appointed Tom Laven-
der as motor mechanic for the
fire brigade and setting the
dates for nomination and elec-
tion were passed.
E. R. Davis . reported on the
erectionof stop signs which had
been torn out and the gravelling
of streets .and erection of snow
feces.
Construction work on Rich-
mond, Elizabeth and • Brock
streets, in preparation for pav-
ing, will start next week by the
county road department.
Robert Raeburn, appearing• for
the public school board, received
permission to erect a light on
the school grounds.

Mrs. Harold Bonthron was
hostess at her home Tuesday
evening, October 29, for.. the
Kinettes meeting. Special guests
were •Mrs.William Fuss and
Mrs. Jack Cornell.
President Mrs. John ' Heal,
who presided, presented 11 of
the members with 100 per cent
attendance bars. Mrs. Harold
Knight, past president, was pre-
sented with a gift and her past
president's pin by Mrs. Heal.
Members visited shut-ins on
Sunday, November a3. Mrs. J.
Clark won the raffle prize.
Newlyweds Honored
The town hall, Hensall, was
filled to capacity last Wednes-
day for a reception in honor of
Mr. and- Mrs. Ken •McLellan
(nee Merle Dickert), a recent
bridal ,couple, of Kippen. They
were presented with' a purse 'of
money.
Thepresentation address was
read by .Jim . McGregor, and pre-
sentation made by Lloyd Cooper.
The Norris orchestra provided
music for the dance.
Remembrance .Day Services
Remembrance Day : service
will be observed in Carmel Pres-
byterian Church Sunday, No-
vember 10, at 11 a.m. A short
service will be held .at the ceno-
taph prior to the service. Rev.
Donald MacDonald will be the
speaker. '
