Dies In Biddulph,
Mrs. Daniel Whalen, 91, died
Monday, October 21 at her late
residence, concession 8, Bid-

She1phlay at rest at the C. Has-
kett and Son funeral home, Lu-
nn till 9:030 a.m. Thursday when
she was taken to St. Patrick's
Church, Biddulph for Requiem
High ,Mass at 10 a.m., Rev Fa-
ther J. A. Machesy officiating.
Interment was in St. Patrick ce-
metery.

Pall -bearers were Hugh Tea -
key, Jim Blake, Vincent Carri-
gan, Leo Morkin, James Dewan
Jr. and John Dewan.
Mrs. Whalen, the former Ca.
therine (Kitty) Maher was the
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. James Maher, Her husband
predeceased her a number of
years ago.

day afternoon.
For posters for the Anglican
turkey dinner October 30, two
tickets will be given to Ken Po-
well, grade .5 winner, and Roger
Black, grade 6 winner.
For Hallowe'en posters first
prize went to Shirley Emerich
(grade 8 pupil); second prize,
Coralyn Donaldson (grade 7 pu-
pil); third prize, Beth Black
(grade 8 pupil).
It was decided to leave the
judging of the pumpkins until
next week.

Mr. .Clow reports that the flu
epidemic has abated. All
teachers were on duty all, week
and most of the children were
in attendance.

The C.G.LT. meeting at the
United Church parlors last Mon -
clay night began with a game
under the direction of Mrs. G.
W. Nicholson. In the craft per-
iod, the making of felt collars
was continued.
In the absence of the presi-
dent, Marilyn Culbert, the vice
president, Ilene Donaldson, pre-
sided. During the business ses-
sion it was decided to again sell
C.G.LT. tags, so members were
askzd to meet at the church at
9.30 a.m. next Saturday. It was
also decided the C.G.I.T, would
be in charge of the checking, of
coats at -the Masonic dinner at
the Community Centre, Nov. 20.
At the next meeting, Nov. 4,
it was decided Doris Hater and
Beverley Butler would be in
charge of instructing the neW

The worship service was taken

Tells Duties
The Lucan Home and School
Association held its *October
meeting last Tuesday in the
school auditorium with the pre-
sident, Mrs. Sheridan Revington
in the chair, Mrs, Art Black at
.the piano, Mrs. Jack Hardy as
lunch convener and Mrs. Ja'ines.
Freeman assisted by Mrs. How-
ard Kew in charge of the home -
baking, candy and white ele-
phant, table.
The attendance cup went to
Mrs. Allison's room.
As many member's found 8

time for future meetings was
changed to 8:15 p.m.
Evaluation slips, were filled in,
giving members an opportunity'
to offer suggestions as to the.
kind of programs which most ap-
pealed to them.
The guest speaker was Miss
Margaret S. Smith, Lucan's Pub-
lic Health nurse. She was intro-
duced by Mrs. Harold Cobleigh
ani later thanked by Mrs. Robt.
Kehl. Miss Smith .spoke on com-
municable diseases, mental ill-
nesses, immunization and also
gave a resume of somea of her
many duties as a health nurse.
She urged all mothers to read
carefully all . notices sent them
from the Health Department and
to keep a record of each child's
"shots.” At the close of her in•
teresting and instructive address,
many mothers availed them-
selves of the opportunity to ask
her question.
In the absence of Mrs. Ivan
Hearn, Miss Lina Abbott con-
ducted a geography contest
which ended in a tie.

ed church and the Evening Aux-
iliary held their joint Thank Off-
ering meeting in the United
church parlors last ,Thursday
evening with the president of the
former, Mrs. Alex Young, in the
chair and Miss Reta Chown at
the piano.
The Evening Auxiliary had
Charge of the `worship service
taken by Mrs. Jens Andersen,
Mrs. G. E, Nicholson and Mrs.
Dave Park.
A duet by Anne and & Merry.
Roberts and a solo by Dana •Cul-
bert acompanied by •]4lrs. Clam
once Hardy were enjoyed.
Mrs. Ira Carling introduced the
guest .speaker, Mrs. George
Mitchell, of ArVa, ,secretary of
the Middlese5c ' Presbytery on
Christian Citizenship.
Mrs. Mitchell dividdd her topic
into four parts — the necessity of
being concerned with temper-
ance, citizenship, friendship and

by the three daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Park, when eight-
year-old Barbara accompanied
her sisters, seven-year-old Nancy
and five-year-old Betty, who sang
the Christmas carol "Silent
Night." A display of articles for
the bale preceded the social
hour.
