School Pupils Provide To tessful In New 'Weather conditions forced Zur- ich rain' to move Tuesday .and; the Change 'turned out to be so suc- cessful that. the exhibition May ble establishedpermanently in the new location,, Recent rains, which made the fairgrounds a sea of n1ud, .caused officials to shift their show to Hay Township Community Centre. This ruled out the .staging' of horse races, one of the main ;attractions of the :fair, but it provided other advantages which :pintel officials thought offset this Loss. The horse show and some .of the cattle competitions were held 1• In the rink section of the com- munity centre building providing spectators with ready-made seat - Mg,. It also protected thein from I the cool fall winds. Indoor .exhibits were displayed in the 'ball which provided a lnuch brighter setting than the old barn on the fair grounds, Aston Cardiff, Huron M.P., of- ficially opened the exhibition fol- lowing a parade of school chil- dren led by the Zurich Lions 3 Boys' and Girls' Band. The erowd numbered abput 500, ap- proximately the saine as last year. Ifigblight of the horse show was • the number of prizes won by local exhibitors. Bert McBride, Zurich, captured the wagon classes with a fine team while Ed Schroeder, Hensall, was awarded ribbons for his hack- neys. Several Zurich district youths provided entertainment in the Jumping stakes and pony races. Antics of one Shetland pony, who triedto' buck its rider, Larry Merner, included an unsuccess- ful attempt at bunting one of the fair officials. Local exhibitors also dominat- ed' the cattle classes. Herb Klopp, Zurich, captured five of the seven first -place ribbons in the polled angus division, while Percy Wil- lert and Son won a .majority. of prizes in the grade beef division, Whitney Coates and Son, Cen- tralia, were top winners in the I•lereford class. W. R. and Roy Pepper, Seaforth, and Jack Peck, Kippen, shared prize money in Durhams. Gude News Br CAPTAIN LUXTON Well Lefty and I certainly got our signals twisted last week eh? We were each depending on the other to be present at our„meet-. ing Friday night, and neither of us made it. However, they say a good Company, working on pa- trol 'System should be able to carry on without a leader and that's just what our Company did. Good work girls! It goes to show *that each and every one of, you know 'the true meaning of your first Guide Law. Once again we must have our meeting on Friday night this week, so we shall see you at the Hall at 7:15 and have our open- ing exercises and then • we'll proceed to our "planned spot" to try that 'Scouts Pace. 'Puf- fers and snorters won't pass - you claim you're ready to try - so we shall see. After the big ordeal of running Scouts Pace for a mile we may have a sur- prise for you! We have two new recruitsso far this fall and right now we'd like to say a Warm welcome' to Anmarie Kraft • and P ricia at Ferguson. We do hope you girls enjoy our. company as much as we enjoy having you and that you'll con- tinue enjoying git alongthe Path of Guiding through the years, As newly appointed District Commissioner, we'd like to give bit of news about our Brownie Packs. First Pack met last Wednesday for the initial meeting of the Season under the leadership of Mrs, Tony Page as Brown Owl and Alice Garter as Tawny Owl, We would like to point out at this time, that this pack is full to capacity, There were twenty- four Brownies registered last y Wednesday and unless there are changes at a later date, we now have a full pack. This !neaps that no more Brownies hwill be accepted In this pack until its registration is, below 24, . However our Second Pack which meets on Thursday nights will ...e r0 .. for w l hay om a sew 'extra. Our .regular Brown Owl of Sec- ond Pack, Elly Bakker, has gone to Holland for a few months. During her absence Norma Kelp ler has taken over the Pack as noting Brown Owl with the as- sistance of Margarot Sanders as acting Tawny Owl and Mary Page as Paekie. l7ntil Miss Bakker returns we Will only accept 18 Brownies in this Pack and,so 1 believe that .mads. ethere is only room for five' flew Brownies as there are now 13 in the Pack, So if your datrgfiiter wishes ioStan Brow- nies and was not out last Wed- nesday acrd atoeepted in First Pack, 'then send her to the Scout Hall on.
