On Tag Day
Annual;Navy League Tag Day
was held in Exeter on Sat-
urday, September 7, 'Sponsored
by the Ladies' Auxiliary, . Can-
adian Legion. Mrs. Vera M.
Mason was convener..
Proceeds for the day amounted
to $60.
Since it was founded in 1895,
the Navy League of Canada has
steadily developed its welfare
services to seafarers through its
famous ditty bags, clubs, hostels,
hospital visitations, and comforts
to sea veterans in these institu-
tions.
It has also built up a great
record of educational work, but
its greatest achievement is the
nation-wide youth -training pro
gram for boys from twelve to
eighteen years of age.
This work is conducted in part-
nership with the Royal Canadian
Navy and, through the Royal
Canadian Sea Cadet Corps and.
Navy League Cadet Corps, many
thousands of Canadian boys are
graduated' each year from the
Navy Leagues training estab-
lishments throughout the coun-
try.
In these training centres boys
are given practical, interesting
type of training designed to bring
forward and develop then best
dualities and teach them self-
reliahee as well as the meaning
and values of good dieipline.
