The T.W.S. group of the United
Church held a successful bazaar
and tea in the .church on. Wed,
nesday evening, realizing around
$300.00.
The bake table was, cleared
before many patrons even got .a
chance toview same. The aprons
on display were an example of
fine industrious work of the
ladies, as was also the fancy
work and doll clothes booths.

organ recital in. Caven Presby-
terian church 20 minutes before
the church service on Sunday
morning next.
Mr. Foster before coming to
live in Exeter was organist and
choirmaster in Dovercourt Pres-
byterian church, Toronto.
Mrs, P. Gardiner
Former Resident
Mrs. Peter Gardiner, 87, a for-
mer resident of this community
died in Lhndo'zl on Thursday,
.August 8.,
She Was the former Ellen Eli-
zabeth. Hails, born at Elinlville.
She was a former teacher at Win-
chelsea school and married Peter'
Gardiner also a teacher.
For years they lived in Exe-
ter when Mr. Gardiner. was ]n
partnership 'in a general store
business with the Tate Samuel
Poppl.estone before moving to
Myth,
Mrs. Gardiner had lived in
London 30 years, Mr. Gardiner
predeceased her in August 1948.
She was a nieniber' of First St,
Andrew's United church and Of
the Woman's Mi4sionary Society.
Surviving are one tori, William
Cecil, Gardiner, Niagara Pails,
N.Y. and three grandsons

of last week with the latter's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin
Passmore.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Willert, of
Zurich, spent •Saturday evening
with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jeffery,
Air, and Mrs. Ted McIntyre,
Peggy and George, .of London,
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Ballantyne.
Miss Marilyn Tuckey of Hen-

for Sundays August 18 and 25.
W.A. and W.M.S. Meeting
The August meeting of the
W.A. and W,M.S. was held in
the basement of the church when
the Mission Band was enter-
tained. Mrs. Lee Webber and
Mrs. William Snow were the
hostesses,
Mrs. Melvin Gardiner, vice-
president of the W.M.S., opened
the meeting. Mrs. Donald Ker -
nick, superintendent of the Mis-
sion Band, took charge. The
theme was "Friendship." All
Mission Band members joined a
friendship circle, and poems
were recited by Barbara Webber,
Marilyn Gardiner, Joyce Mayer.
Mrs. -Kernick told a story.
• Offering was taken by Douglas
Rohde and Billy Jeffery. A vocal
duet was contributed by Janet
Rowe and Barbara. Webber, ac-
companied by Mrs. Reg. Hod-
gert. Recitations were given by
Bobby Snow, Marlene Webber,
Margaret Kernick and Sharon
Passmore. D on a l d Kernick
showed films on children of
Switzerland, and ofEskimo chil-
dren, and humorous one.
Mrs. Melvin Gardiner resided
over the WA. business when it
was decided to give $300 toward
the manse fund.
James F. Brook
Dies In Hospital .
• James Franklin Brook, 81,
died in South Huron Hospital on
Tuesday, after being a patient
there for the past two weeks.
He has lived on Highway 4 on
the outskirts of Exeter for the
past 20 years, retiring there
from the farm in Usborne Town-
ship.
• He was a meinber of James
Street United Church.
His wife, the former 'Emma
Delbridge, died in October, 1941.
Surviving aife two daughters,
Mrs. James Wilson- (Lillian), and
Mrs. 'Roy Pepper (Iren.e), of
Exeter:
The funeral service is being
held. today (Thursday) from the
Hopper -Hockey Funeral home,
conducted by Rev. Alex Rapson,
Interment will be in Exeter
cemetery.
