First school building in S.S. 5, was built in 1856 of logs hand hewn by the late Themes Scott. It is recorded that the logs were hewn with Such precision that once the corners were dovetailed together, the building was almost light -proof. First classes were held in ,January, 1857, The log' school was superseded by a hriek building in 1871. The big shade trees which grace the grounds were planted by "Neil McKellar, who was trustee in charge of the brick school in 1871. An earlier reunion "was held at Mr. J. B.
