Plenty of upsets and surprises
are taking place in the Exeter
.Golf Club Match - flay tourna-
anent,
To date, the first round has
been completed by the club's 30
members and two have eom-
men.ced into the second step.
One of the biggest upsets in
the tourney canlo last weekend
when Lloyd Ford, a local shot -
maker, .downed last year's club
champion, Don Gravett, two and
one when he carded an 89.
Ford, who had his irons wort-
ing to perfection was one up go-
ing into the 16th hole, Playing
his tee shot to the left, he care-
fully chipped his second to with-
in two feet of the pin for an easy
three,
Gravett, who finished the
round with a 19, had to settle for
a bogie to go two down. Another
miss on the 17th green with the
putter, and Lloyd was declared
the winner. Ford will advance

Johti Haberer and Benny Gignac;
a single by Arnie Meyers, and a
home run by Bill Yungblut,
The game was, sweet revenge
for a 16.3 mauling the Mohawks
absorbed in Zurich the following.
Saturday night.
The Kings literally ran wild as -
they produced 13 base hits that
were good .for 16 runs.
Although Exeter jumped into a
2-0 first inning lead on Jim Rus-
sell's two -run .,homer, Zurich
came bacltNith four in the last
of the inning oto take the lead.
The fourth brought the biggest
rally of the game when nine
players touched home plate for
the winners.
Doug O'Brien, Don O'Brien,
Tom Rawlings, Doug Theander
and Winning Pitcher Wayne
Rowe all collected two hits
apiece for the winners, while Cy
Blommaert singled three times
for the losers,
The Tribe blew a four -run lead
in the last inning With Hensall
and had to settle for an 8-8 tie
at home on Tuesday night.
• Laverne Wallace flashed the
bit sign twice for Hensen, while
Fred Matheson did the same for
Exeter.
Bruce Moir, classy centre-
fielder for Hensall Coach, pulled
off a couple of beautiful one -
handed catches to thwart any
Exeter rallies and keep his club
in the nip and tuck ball game.
Plenty Of Plate Power
Tremendous hitting ability - by
the Mitchell Legionnaires has
been a major factor in their
recent cliraib to the top of the
ladder and in the past couple of
games they once again proved
themselves.
Kenny Saxton and Bill Gaten-
by hit for the circuit against
Zurich in a 6-5 victory, and each
also added a double.
Doug Aitchison bested Arnie
Meyers in an eight -inning mound
duel which saw 'Aitchison give
up nine hits to Meyers' 11,
Aitchison fanned 11 Zurich bat-
ters, while Meyers struck out
nine.
In a 6-2 victory against a
make -shift Exeter club, Gary
Hopf and Whitey Malcho teamed.
up for a three -hitter, as Jim
Russell. Joe Wooden and Cy
Blominaert were the only ones
to hit safely for Exeter.
Doug Aitchison hit a "gopher
ball," served up by Fred Mathe-
son, over the centre field fence
to spark 'the win.
Hensall Coacll, who haven't
lost a game all year on their
home diamond to Exeter, kept
their winning streak in contact
by rampaging to a 13-0 victory.
Billy Higgs. cdasted all the way
-to an - easy triumph as Exeter
lacked the necessary hitting
power at the plate. .

this year's Pontiac has even us running out of
praise for the good looks that have put it at the top
as Canada's most wanted car. Could be good styling
always comes out on top. '
Remember when all the male fashion magazines
were full of pink shirts? Store windows blushed pink
on every side and, for a little while at least, shirt
dealers were very happy. Then the clearance sales
began and dealers tried everything they could to dis-
pose of the pink shirts that people weren't buying
any more. One more fancy fad had come and gone.
• We think there's a moral in this that applies to
the car business, too. And when we take a look at
Pontiac's sales record this year, we're sure of it(.
Canadians everywhere appreciate Pontiac's quiet,
graceful beauty ... the absence of flash and gaudi-
ness. They recognize and appreciate the sort of
workmanship in every detail that only General
Motors can put into a war. They like the friendly
treatment and the efficient service they find when-
ever they deal with a Pontiac dealer.
But see for yourself as you drive, Just count the
Pontiacs.. , and you'll agree therising tide ofPontiao
popularity is turning into a veritable torrent,
