Rally Falls Short
Exeter Legion Bantams;came
out on the short end of a 19-16
ball game in Exeter Saturday
afternoon as an eight -run rally
in the last inning fell three short
of the Sebringville total,
Sebringville /held, a narrow
4-3 lead going into the fourth
inning when a number of costly
errors by the locals enabled the
visitors to score seven runs and
take a commanding 11-3 lead.
Despite the one-sidect score,
Behind the power hitting et the Exeter kids kept peeking
Jerry Cooper, Bob Schroeder away and finally ended up only
three runs behind.
The winners used Bob Smith
and Fred Komps on the mound,
with Komps taking over after
an eight -run outbreak.
Dean McKnight, who tripled in
the sixth, was tagged with the
loss, and had to be relieved by
Ron Heywood in the seventh.
Second baseman Jack Stephan
came up with a three -run homer
in the final frame but had to
slide at the plate to make it a
circuit stout. In doing so, the
youngster twisted his ankle and
will be lost to the team indefin-
itely. .
Lester Heywood clouted the
second four -bagger of the after-
noon for the locals, while Gordie
Strang, Jim Jones, Bev Irwin,
Bob Jones and Frank Boyle
each hit safely once.
