Arena
Activities
By HAROLD RIBSON
Well, folks, here we are back
again, with news from the Arena,
Last Wednesday. July 3, the first
wrestling card was enjoyed by a
good crowd and Lucan fans, not
to be outdone by other wrestling
centres, finished the evening with
a real old fashioned Irish donny-
brook. Of course they had good
reason for the outburst.
In the main bout, we had Pat
O'Conner, twisting arms, legs
and necks with Fritz Von Erick,
a real rough boy. Von. Erick took
the first fall, Pat the second and
when they carne back for the
third and final fall, Von Erick
started out very rough, tough and
nasty.
In a few minutes he had O'Con-
nor on the ropes, massaging his
neck and doing a very good job
of choking him into another
world. Frank Gotter, the refe-
ree, made several futile attemps
to break it up, but Von Erick
was beyond all reason. So Got -
ter disqualified Von Erick and
awarded the bout to O'Connor.
When Von Erick insisted on
continuing his rough ways, after
time keeper, Clair Stanley rang
the bell, a number of the crowd
took over.
In the first bout, Jan Gotch and
Johnny 'Walker,
wrestled to a
30 min, draw, he second bout
was a real speed session, with
Ronnie Etchison, winning by'pin-
ning John Peseck at 16 minutes
of •a 30 minute time limit bout.
Wet weather has played havoc
with the elaborate plans of the
Arena board to complete u num-
ber of outdoor projects in the
park. This next week should see
basketball in full swing in the
Arena.
Misplaced Words
Accidents can happen, even in
a printing office. Last week the
words, "Bring Picnic Baskets,"
which should have appeared at
the bottom of the "Willert Reu-
nion" on page 15 of the Exeter
Times - Advocate, unfortunately
was placed at the head of the
Lucan United Church, Ham and
Strawberry Supper. causing con-
sternation to the church mem-
bers.
In spite of the mistake and.
heavy rain there was a good
turn -out at the supper.
