It cannot be doubted that Mr. Liens would
dischaig' efficiently the duties of the clerkship,
but 1 humbly submit that there are many others
in the Cooed counties who ate able to fulfil those
official duties to the satisfaction of the public,
and that there is neither restart nor justice in as-

it to another who hugs a whole loaf.
1 cannot uodentand that there will be any ad-
vantage to the public io combining the two offi-
ces of clerk of the Peace and county clerk, for the
business of the Reeve' at Magistrates will wo-
rldly be in the clerk of the Peace's office. and
their business as heads of the several Township
Councils• will se naturally remain with the
county clerk ; the duties of the two clerkships be-
ing perieetly distinct.
I cannot help observing that the argument of
"economy and cooveniency" comes with but •
