Kin Rah TO Tie Legion,
Supremacy 'Still In Doubt
A press statment on this sports
page last week said that hockey
supremacy in Exeter was going
to be decided in Exeter on Fri-
day between the Exeter Kins-
men and Exeter Legion in a 60 -
minute tussle on the ice lanes.
Rowever, the two teams bat-
tled to a 6-6 tie and .the question
still hangs in the air: v'vhich is
the better tarn and why is it
the Kinsmen' t If anyone dis-
Hockey
Standings\
agrees with this statement, Y011
can ask any Kinsmen member
and be will gladly verify the
statement for you but don't go
to the Legion brigade with it,
Seriously thongh, Coach lannny
Ford had his Legion members
in high gear. for most of the
game as they jumped off to a 3-1
first period lead and held a 5-3
edge at approximately the half
way mark of the final stanza.
But then. the roof caved in as
the Kinsmen, who started the
game with only six men, found
some of their recruits in time to
bang in four third period goals
to cause the 6-6 deadlock.

By LARRY HEIDEMAN
The Pee Wee Wings defeated
the Royals by a score of 2-1 in
a tightly fought minor hockey
league game played at the local
arena last Saturday Morning to
win the Pete Crocker Trophy.
The series was two -game goals -
to -count, with the first gaine end-
ing in a 1-1 tie.
Don Bray, of the Wings, started
the searing early in the game by
getting away a nice drive from
just inside the blueline on which
the goaltender's view was partial-
ly bloeked, Freddy Wells assisted
on the play and five -minutes
later scored the second goal for
the Whigs on a slap shot that
sneaked between the pads of
Goattender Donald COoper.
Graham Mason, "Pee Wee"
Kleinstiver and Jerry "Bones"
Lawson were first period marks-
men for the Legion while Cy
Blonimaert,..ealy aged the. woillY-
Kinsmen ctoUnter, at the ,13100'
minute mark.
Blommaert blinked the light
for his second of •three goals in
the second while Glenn Robin-
son took ','Slinker" Reg McDon-
ald's -pass at 15100 to keep two
goals in front of the surging
Kinsmen who had some more
players just entering the arena.
Slippery Sack Fulcher worked
out a neat three-way play with
Willie McLean and 'Stinker"
McDonald to open the third per-
iod scoring 'at 7:42 before the
late arrivals, Les Parker, Ross
Tuckey and Nick Bobrov, one of
the Russian Kinsmen delegates,
could adapt themselves to the
grace and speed to which the
L6gion players Were performing.
AS the game progressed a
number of stiff checks were be-
ing handed out all over the rink
as Bud Preszcator went to the
ice along the right boards while
making a solo rush.
With the ice still O.K. to play
on, Ross Tuckey and "Hard -
Rock" Toby _Brintnell c011ided
together at the blueline like two
freight trains and it brought a
thunderous roar from all of the
85 spectators.
Goaltenders Dick Watson, of
the Legion, and Ross Haugh, of
the Kinsmen, turned' in sonic
'exceptional saves to keep the
score down and dishearten some
of the "old pros" of the hockey
world.
