Teachers Review
Science Training
The Lucan Public School staff
attended the March meeting of
the Biddulph and North London
TeachersAssociation in the Birr
School last Tuesday lfternoon,
where Mrs. Alvarez is the
teacher.
Each teacher took a science
note book with them and when
the roll was called they answered
it by displaying their book and
making a few comments about it.
The thenie of the meeting was
science and the showing of its
co -relation to other school sub-
jects. The teachers were divided
into discussion groups and gained
much helpful information.
Inspector R. J. McNaughton
spoke at length on circulars and
pamphlets sent out and the im-
portance of reading each care-
fully and of sending in reports
promptly, He also spoke on the
recent arithmetic tests which he
had given all the schools in his
inspectorate.
Mr, Clow reports that Lucan
School on the whole, made a good
showing though some grades
were below average.

Children's Work
The Lucan Public School's
special feature for Education
Week was the holding of Open
House last Thursday afternoon,
giving the parents the opportun-
ity to visit the school, compare
their child's work with other
' grade pupils and to discuss the
child's scholastic abilities and
progress with the tea,cher.
The staff was pleased to have
! 60 parents register and felt the
afternoon was time well spent.

Jack Lankin, Mrs. R. T. Rum-
mell and Mrs. Robert Kehl
One of the highlights of the
• afternoon was the refreshment

Thomson. She was assisted by
the president, Mrs. Sheridan
Revington, and the two vice-
proidentsl Mrs.. Clarence Has-
kett and Mrs. Calvin ,Haskett.

the "Shamrock Tea" being held

Union. met at the home of Mar-
lene Revington ori Monday night.
The date set was March 16,
in the Sunday Church School
room in Lucan, with Mrs, Gor-
don Eaton and ,Mrs. Murray
Hodgins to pour tea. Mrs, E. J.
,Roulston will receive. guests to-
gether with vice-president, Ruth
Donaldson.
In charge of the tables will be,
Roe and Ann Revington, Mari-
lyn Eaton, Jeannette Blake,
Pauline and Dorothy Lynn, Mar-
lene Revingten, and Heather
Stanley.
r.presidents Mrs. Alex Mac-
intosh and Mrs. Cecil Robb will
supervise the tea tables with
the following supervising in the
kitchen: Mrs. Arnold Blake,
Mrs, Jack Reedy., Nancy Elson,
Janice Maeintosh, Retha Arm-
trong and Helen Kestle.
The planning committee con-
sists of co -conveners, Lynette
Walpole and Marlene Revington,
Marilyn Eaton, Jeanette Blake
and % 'Marjorie Sovereign.
The boys who are -members of
the Y.U.P, are sharing in this
project financially by contribu-
tions to the purchasing fund.
Preceeds from the tea will be
used to assist two or four mem-
bers to attend the Hi -Teen
Course at Five Oaks' Christian
Training Centre April 22 to 26.

At Anglican WA
The March meeting of the
Anglican Woman's Auxiliary was
held ,ht the home of Mrs. Harold
Hodgins last. Wednesday after-
noon. Due to the illness of ,the
president, Mrs. T. C, McFarlane
and vice president, Mrs, Harold
Corbett, the second vice presi-
dent, Miss Lina Abbott,. presid-
ed. Twenty members answered
the roll call, Mrs. Irene Coursey
read the scripture lesson and
Mrs. Erwin Scott led in the Lit-
any.
Arrangements were complet-
ed for the World Day of Prayer.
A letter re, "The Quiet Day,"
April 1, in Byron, was read and
Mrs. Roy Stanley volunteered to
take a car -load. to it.
Mrs. Erwin Scott read an in-
teresting article, written. by ,a
missionary in the Hay River
mission in the North-West Ter-
ritories describing the pleasure
of work here in spite of lack of
modern conveniences.
In place of the regular study
book, Mrg. Harold Hodgins de-
cided, being, Ash Wednesday, to
give a talk on the Wbrld's Day
of Prayer and was' able to com-
pile an interesting collection of
information.
After her talk •one member
supplied the fact that Lucan's
first World's Day of Prayer was
held in -the old Presbyterian.

Plan New Camp
For UC Youth
Mrs. Murray Hodgins attended
the meeting .of the Camp Com-
mittee of the Christian Educa-
tion Committee for Middlesex
Presbytery, on Tueklay at Cen-
tennial United Church London.
Camp Sunday thronghout the
the Presbytery will be held on
May 19 at which time each fa-
mily will be urged to place $2.00
in the envelopes to be provided.
This will. permit the initial steps
which must be taken to get this
project under way on the pro-
perty so generously donated by
Mr. Harvey Wales.
A pool, similar to that at the
United Church Camp "Bimini"
in 'Perth Presbytery, will be
built, also a dining hall, large
enough to be used as a recrea-
tion hall on rainy days. Later
on cabins, etc. will be added.
This camp will be for the use
of young and old of the whole
of Middlesex Presbytery and will
assure a good Christian training
for whatever period can be at-
tended. The camp will be ready
for the 1958 season if each person
does his part.
The 1957 'camps for boys and
girls will be held at Binmini
and are as follows: girls 10, 11
and 12 years old, August 17-24
and boys 10-14, August 24-31.
Explorer Camps will be held at
the C.G.I.T. Cainp Site near
Ryerson, the first two weeks in.

on Wednesday evening.

ling. Mrs. Ed Butler, guest solo-
ist, sang two numbers accompa-
nying herself on the accordion.

the memory of Miss Camelia
Ross and Mr. John McLean.

'choir gowns and it was decided
to leave the fund open for con-
gregational donations, the same
to be annuonced from the pul-

Two Teenagers
Hurt In Crash
Two 17 - year - old Granton
youths, William R. Ilarrett and
George W. Dann, were admitted
to St. Marys Memorial Hospital
following a car accident at Ran -
nock last Thursday night when
their car went out of tontrol,
snapped a hydro sign and collid-
ed with two parked cars in a
parking lot, resulting in $2,000
damages.

the latter is suffering from

The regular meeting of the
Auxiliary to the Legion was held
in the new Legion Hall last Tues-
day evening. Owing to the hot
beef supper in the United Church
the attendance was small,
Plans were made for curtains
for the hall and the bake sale
Saturday, March 23. It was de-
cided to discontinue the month-
ly euchres for the present and
run the travelling euchres in-
stead.
Lions Entertain Ladies
Miss Angela Armitt, London
was guest speaker last Monday
night when the Lucan Lions held
their Ladies' Night meeting in
the Anglican church basement.
She gave an illustrated address
on her recent trip to Ireland,
