mation,
"A.' case in 'point is a voiun-
teen bag record. for the past
season up to the first week in
January, 1957. It was sent to
the Department by a hunter in
southwestern •.Ontario --a distriet
111 which .at least 90"5 •of :the
land is devoted to agriculture,.
"The bag includes Wilson
snipe 11, woodcock .8, blue:winged
teal 3, green.winged teal 2, nal -
lard 3, greater scaup 8, broad -
bill 2,. canvasback .5, buffle-head
2, flooded merganser 2, black
squirrel S, .cottontail 31, for a,
total of 82 individuals and 12
species.
"Alissing from the list are ruf-
fed grouse and pheasant •(which
were not hunted), Europ.ean
hare, black duck and Canadian
goose, to nan'ie a few whish are
also to be found in the -district.'
'"From this single record,..one
is ' impressed with the variety
of game 'available and the hours
.of recreation afforded. It also
shows that the hunter takes .ad-
vantage of the various types of
shooting to round out the season.
"Of special significance is .the
number of cottontails taken, .well
over a third of the entire season's
bag. Over the entire continent of
North America, the rabbit bears
the brunt of the hunting pres.
sure. More ,shots are fired at
the `bounding bunny' than any
other game.
"This particular hunter notes
the abundance or absenee of
other forms of wildlife and the
presence of any abnormalities.

THE SCOUTING TRA .L
By SKIPPER
We had a good week for Scout-
ing. ,
Firstly; on Thursday last, we
three Scouters started. on a St.
John's Ambulance course at
Clinton, The course consists of
six sessions and . on successful
completion (we hope), we shall
be better qualified to cope with
first aid situations.
• Shturday night saw Huron
District Scout and Cub Leaders
and their wives having a ball at
our Scout Hall. The party was
very well attended and the pro-
gram consisted of, square danc-
ing, few of our Cubgames
and a • campfire sing -song. We
wound 'up proceedings about mid-
night, a tired but happy group.
Attending were leaders . from
Goderich, Bayfield, Seaforth,
Clinton, . Lucan, Grand Bend,
RCAF Centralia, RCAF Clinton
and Exeter.
Our centennial anniversary
church parade was very well at-
etended and we wish to thank.
Rev, Alex'r Rapson a.ncl Main
St, United Church for the hos.
pitality shown our groups.
Scouter Ralph Sweil.zer came
out. second best when he slipped
on an icy street Sunday and now
has a painful bruise on one of
his knees,
