Wed Fifty Years
M. and Mrs. Henry Volland,
former Hensell district residents,
celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary at Bayfield last
week. A family dinner was at-
tended by their family andnston,
•Bruefie1d; when they were pre-
sented with wrist watches.
The family include three
daughters Mrs. Eldon Johnston,
Brucefield; Mrs, Lorne Finlay-
son, Kippen; Mrs. Louis Taylor,
Varna; two sons; Clarence, Hen -
pall and Bruce, Goderich.
Later a number of nieghbours
and friends from Hensall and
Goderich, gathered and enjoyed
*progressive Euchre, after which
a social time was spent. Mr, and
Mrs. Volland were the recipients
Of many useful gifts,
Mrs, Amelia Schroeder visit-
ed last week with relatives in
StratfOrd..
Mrs. Ernie Davis and children
spent the weekend with relatives
in London.

Mrs. Evelyn Mear
The death occurred in Pro-
vost hospital, Proyost, Alberta,
on February of Mrs. Evelyn
Meer, 70, beloved wife of the
lat.
e in 11. ear.
The fernier Evelyn Horton,
she was born in Tuelcersinith
Township, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs« Henry Horton, she
attended school in S.S. 10 Tuck-
ersmith, Seaforth High School
and Stratford Normal, and
taught school in the vicinity for
several years.
In 1914 she Went to Alberta
whera she continued to teach
until her marriage to W. H. Mear
of Hayter, Alta., where they far-
med in that district until the
late Mr. Mear, eight years
ago.
Surviving are one son, Ray.
mond, of Provost, Alta.; one
daughter, Mrs. Aubrey Stones,
of Lousana, Alta,; 4 grandchil-
dren, one sister, Mrs. Grace
Harpole, and one brother, Jar-
vis Horton, both of Hensel.
Funeral services were held
from the Gospel Mission Church
at Provost of which she was a
member. Burial was in Provost
cemetery, •
Thrifty Kippenettes
Mrs, W. Bell was hostess to the
Thrifty Kippenettes' eighth and
last meeting on Saturday. The
meeting opened with the 4-H
pledge, followed with the roll call,
answered by 10 members.
Mrs. Bell spoke about the rec-
ord books and what they must
contain for Achievement Day,and
outlined the activities of Achieve.

Mrs. Bell also gave the girls
instructions on how to make
scuffs out of pyjama material,

Mrs. Edna Corbett spent the
weekend with her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James
Sangster.
Mrs. J. Forrest, who was
stricken with a stroke, was re-
moved to South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, for treatment.

A. large crowd attended the
Youthor Christ Rally .on Satur-
day night in the Clinton Legion
Hall, High, School Bible Club
members were in attendance
from Exeter, Wingham, Walker-
ton and Listowel.
The Wingham and Walkerton
club teams were in contest. The
Walkerton team were the win-
ners. The clubs have been learn:

Auxiliary Legion News
The Ladies Auxiliary to Can-
adian Legion 540 held its month-
ly meeting in the Legion Hall on
Tuesday with the president, Mrs.
A. E. Reilly, in the chair and
lunch convener, Mrs. Charles
Sovereign assisted by Mrs. C. H.
George and Mrs. Chas. Haggar
The mystery prize was won by
Mrs. W. Stocks. ,
During the business it was de-
cided to hold another Euchre in
the Legion Hall February 26 be-
fore beginning Euchres in the
homes. The next bake sale will
be held in The Hub restaurant
Saturday February 23.
For some years the Auxiliary
have had an adopted veteran in
Westminster Hospital to whom
the members take turns in*" send-
ing a card each Week and dur-
ing each month the branch send
a box. This veterans birthday
is Friday, February 22 so arran-
gements were made at the meet-
ing ,to take several car -loads to
his birthday party, as they did
last year.

Miss Patricia Tuckey was ten-
dered severalshowers previous
to her marriage on Saturday.

tertained the Tuckey families for
a miscellaneous shower. skit
was presented and Don Tuckey

The Moir families 'gathered at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford.
Moir on Tuesday evening and
presented Pat with miscellane-
ous gifts.
Pat's friends at the bank and
bowling team were •entertained at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Tuckey on Thursday evening
and Pat was showered with gifts.
Neighbors met at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Amid Willard on
Monday evening and honored Pat
with a miscellaneous shower.
Mrs. Oscar Tuckey entertained
informally for her daughter, Pat-
ricia, on Wednesday and Thurs-
day of last week, when the gifts
were displayed.

Carmel Church Ladies' Aid met
in the church. schoolroom on Mon-
day afternoon Mrs. Percy Camp-
bell, president, opened the meet-
ing and Mrs, J. Soldan gave the
devotional subject,. "The Rock,"
assisted by Mrs. Robert Madge
and Mrs. JOhn Love.
