There was an ,amusing heading on the Free
Press, sportS page Tuesday morning that went St/1U,,
thing like. this: "ROYALS_ HOST TO EXETER SIX.".
Well, they weren't too far wrong! As you've prob.,
ably read. from another section of this sports page,
the, .Mohawks started the STRATHROYgame. off
with only 10 men in the lineup but then added an,,
other in the second. when DOUG THIEL finally
arrived after his car broke down.
It's hard for this, corner to understand and
possibly for many of you hockey fans following the
tribe, how a team can be so unpredictable.
At the beginning of the season the Mohawks
suffered a nine-or 10-game losing streak: Suddenly,
a new coach appears on the scene and the team goes
into high gear for seven straight games and, becomes
a real playoff contender,
Then "POQFI" The tribe is back on a four-game
losing streak.
One of the biggest factors pertaining to. this
losing series has been _evident for some, time. The
fact -that 'Coach WOODWARD doesn't have
TWO SET LINES is -throwing everything off kilter.
As of now the Mohawks don't seem to have one con-
sistent line and. in this league you must have them
or you're behind the old eight ball.
WOODY really. has his hands full if he hopes.
to bring the tribe into a playoff spot at this date as
he Must. rely on the other teams beating SARNIA
and ST. THOMAS as well as ourselves, but this isn't
happening.
Because of the 10-day layoff from February 5 to
February 15, the Exeter. Booster Club has booked
an exhibition hockey game for Tuesday, February.
12.
The visitors will be none other than the STRAT-
FORD.INDIANS. ,of.the O.H.A.: Senior "A" league,
Eyes should be kept on centre MICKEY ROTH
of 'the" Indians as he is leading the league in the
scoring race . with 28 goals and 40 assists for 68
points. His linemates, DINNEY FLANNIGAN and_
BILLY FLICK are also in the top five of the scoring
race, so they'll' be worth watching.
Defenceman JOE SCHERTZEL,'who played with
KITCHENER-WATERLOO DUTCHMEN last year and.
is now with STRATFORD, who is one of the highest
scoring defencemen in the league, will be on hand.
Remember the big game with Stratford is on
-TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12 at 8:30 p.m. at the Exeter
Arena.

STANLEY CUP—Who will win the Stanley Cup?
Well here is the answer. BOSTON BRUINS will win
the honors, says an electronic computer at Comput-
ing Devices Canada, Ottawa, reports The Financial
Post. Experts fed in a mass of information based on
10-year goals and penalties records, mid-season
standing, and it came up with the NHL final stand-
ing in this order: MONTREAL, BOSTON DETROIT;
TORONTO, NEW YORK, and. CHICAGO, with Boston
winning from Montreal, (That was before Sawchuck
resigned as Boston goalie!)

Minor hockey at the arena
Saturday, February 2, showed
the Flyers and Wings battling to
a 6-6 tie. Freddy Wells led the
Wings by getting the hat trick,
while Jim Gould registered a
pair, Lou Du Gray scored the
other Wings goal.
Allen Sall was the big gun for
the Flyers, picking up three
goals, while singles went to Ron-
ald Oke, Rickey Boyle and
Stan Lesnick.
In the second Pee Wee game,
Jim Sweitzer scored a thrilling
last- minute goal to give the
Hornets a 1-0 victory over the
Flashes..
In the third game, the Royals
downed the Panthers by a score
of 4-1. Lorne Turnbull scored
two goals for the Royals while
singles went to Bill Cann and
Donald Cooper, John Naget
potted the lone Panther goal.
Broomball
The Dashwood and Kinsmen
broomball teams battled to a
0-0 tie at the Community Arena
last Sunday afternoon. Chances
galore, to break the tie were
missed by both teams as the
goaltending was exceptional,,
In the second game, the Aces
defeated the last-place Exeter
Mdhawks by a score of 311. Den
0`13rien was a two-goal man for
the Aces, with Cecil Henderson
adding a single. The lone Mo-
hawk' marker was stored by Bill
Musser.

Should also be pointed out that
some of the Zurich Wee Wees
were sick and that they brought
a few of their older fellows
along to take their places. Al'
though the. Exeter team was
outclaSsed and outsited, I think
they should be congratulated
for putting forth with such a
wonderful, showing.
Don't forget the big Minor
Hockey Night that is to be held
this. Friday, February 8. Kitch-
ener Bantam* will be in town
for what should prove to be an
exceptionally good game as our
own club will be Out to trim the
hide off them;
With only five, games remain-
ing in the schedule, Exeter needs
all the wins they can muster
but they must have the players
to do see, Lack of player help
for the last two games have
hurt their efforts more than any-
thing. In fact, you can count
on one hand the number of
games that Exeter Mohawks
have had three full lines, five
defencemen and a goalie.
Thisis what happens when a
club jumps into a league at the
last minute and hasn't had the
chance to build as strongly as
the other teams in the circuit.
However, M o h a w k s have
proved themselves to the extent
that, they don't have to take a
back seat from any of the teams
in the league with a half
decent lineup and this is most
encouraging to the Exeter Boost-
er Club. The club hopes to fin-
ish the schedule because if
Exeter should drop out now,
there would be little hope of get-
ting a team in the 0.11.A, next
yeat.
Exeter Booster Club officials
Who are holding another Boost-
er Night at Armstrong's Rest-
aurant on February 15, are be-
hind the tribe all the way so it's
up to the players to produce.
"Full co-operation from -all udorton is, Clinton 4

players will have to be felt by,

dent of the Exeter Booster Club.
"Our financial loss isn't great
at the moment but we need all
of the players out to keep it
that way fpr the rest of the seat
son to give the fans their m'oney's
worth."
St. Thomas Royals took a bid
step towards the `last playoff
spot with a 5-4 decision over the

nets right in Wallaceburg. Sar-
nia also hit the jackpot in a
"must" game as they dumped
the Hornets 5-3 at home after
Mohawks ofthe .0,H.A. Senior
"13" League is beginning to, get
darker and darker.
The tribe lest a valuable game
at home to the St. Thomas, Roy-
als on Saturday night and then
travelled to Stratliroy on Tues-
day to take their second Straight
beating of the week,
Losing these two games left
the Mohawks. en shaky ground
but still a playoff berth is not
irripOssible.
The games that are really
hurting the tribe are games be-
ing won by St. Thomas and Sar-
nia ever high-classed clubs like
Wallaceburg, Woodstock a 11. d.
Strathroy.
Mohawks must rely on these
top teams to help them, out by
knocking off Sarnia and St.
Thomas for a playoff position.
This isn't entirely impossible
but the way this unpredictable
league is going the lower teams
are making the higher-ups look
sick.

two points back of the fourth
place Sarnia CV's.
It was an uphill battle all. the

1-0 at the end of the' first period,
fell behind 2-1 at the end of the
middle stanza, and although they
rallied to tie the score early in
the third, were outscored 3.1 in
the final session,
ItNwas just one of those nights
for the Mohawks as they couldn't
seem to get untracked through'
out the contest. '
The visiting St. Thomas club
dimmed the play-off picture for
the Tribe considerably as they
outskated, outbumped and out-
played the locals for moat of the
