. Estimates Gladly Furnished. General Contractors,
'Improves Mail Service
Renovation of Exeter Post
Office, now one of the most
modern in the area, is almost
complete.
Last of the construction work
was done last week when mo-
dern glass wickets were in-
stalled in the reception counter.
When tables are placed in the
public areas, the renovation will
be finished.
Most of the construction was
completed before Christmas and
Postmaster Harvey Pfaff and
his staff were able to put the
enlarged facilities to the test im-
mediately with the flood of yule
mail. Although some makeshift
arrangements had to he made,
the mail was handled in record
time in the revamped building.
Pleased with his new quarters,
Postmaster Pfaff says the im-
provements have enabled his
staff to provide more efficient
service to town and area, "We
have much more room to work
in now and the conditions are
vastly improved. We were too
crowed in the old building and
it hampered our work."
One of the major improvements
has been the addition of hund-
reds of new rock boxes. The old
steel and glass boxes have been
replaced by modern aluminum
ohes totalling 802, more than
three times the former number.
Proof that they were needed is
revealed in the fact that al-
ready 150 new boxes have been
rented.
Many Improvenients
Besides a complete modern-
ization, the imprcivements have
included a custom:built counter,
new equipment for faster hand-
ling of the mail, more conven-
ient quarters for the rural cour-
iers, mail lobby, special vault
and new furnace.
The equipment includes more
sorting cases, a letter truck,
parcel bag truck and sorting
racks for the couriers.
The couriers' quarters have
been moved from the basement
to the first floor, eliminating the
job of carting mail up and down
stairs.
Construction included a full-
width 18-foot addition to the rear
plus a 20x8 lobby on the south-
east corner for receiving mail.
The building is now about 60
feet Square.
A second entrance, for the con-
venience of lock box holders,
was cut in the north half of the
front and the night box, placed
on the north side.
Modernization of the interior
has included installation of ,fluo-
rescent and flood lighting, battle-
ship linoleum on the floors and a
color scheme of light green and
natural birch.
Centralia Firm Contractor
Construction was done by C.
A. 1V1cDowell and Co., Centralia.
Lumber, millwork and the new
counter was supplied 'by Kalb-
fleisch Planing Mill, Zurich, and
other building supplies by Huron
Lumber Co„ Exeter. and Cen-
tralia Farmers' Supply. Roof on
the addition was constructed by
Northern Roofing Co., London,
and Garfield Thomson, Exeter,
installed the electrical system.
C. H. Wade, London, was the
painter.
Besides Postrinster Pfaff, the
staff includes Senior Assistant
Wally Pfaff and Assistants Nor-
ma Veal and Mrs. Helen Brode-
rick. Rural couriers are' Mrs.
Don Hooper. and ma, Murray
Scott.
Active In Church,,

ducted by Rev, Alex Rapson, of
Main Street Church.

Woods, Ray Perkins, Gilbert
Johns, Philip Johns, Kenneth
Johns and Howard Johns. •
Mr. Johns was 'the last of a
family of 11 children of the late
Richard and Eliza Johns. He was

preacher in the former Methodist
Church at Elimville, and was
