school area met at Armstrong's
Restaurant following the closing
of school on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr.' Cecil Porter of the staff
of South Huron District High
School discussed with the teach-
ers the requirements in English
for the first grades in High
School. It clarified for the teach-
ers the teaching of English in
Grade 8.
Mrs. Alex Rapson presided
for the meeting and at the con-
clusion the teachers enjoyed
dinner together.

Dies 'In Toronto I
William Henry Hill, 83, died
at his home, 110 Evelyn Cres.,
Toronto, on Monday, January
14.
Mr. 'Hill was born in Exeter
and started clerking with Rich-
ard Pickard then later with I
Robert Pickard. Ile became
manager of Carling Bros. dry
goods department and in 1900
went to Buffalo for three years.
Later in Toronto he travelled
for Gordon McKay wholesale
dry goods and then was in
similar blisinesk of his own for
25 yeark prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the
Canadian Order of Forresters.

week that he and three training

ed" with pilot training at RCAF
Station Centralia.
They came here Wednesday.
to visit the RCAF primary fly-
ing training school.
Col. Schlicting accompanied
the 'three officers on a tour of
RCAF stations. The West Ger-
man officers are: 'Col. J. R. N.
Poetter, director of training for
the West German Air Force;
Col. W. H. Hoffman, deputy for
technical training, and' Lt.-Col.
H. A. A. Wehnelt, commanding

Orpha Club
The Orpha'. Club held their
first meeting, of the year on
Tuesday at the home of Mrt.
Irene Kennedy, after having' at-
tended the week of rayer serv-
ice in Dashwbod United Evan-
gelical Brethern Church.
The group made plans at their
meeting for the Easter project
of clothing and baby layouts.
The sewing and knitting com-
mittees were instructed to buy
material and wool. Mrs. Elsie
Desjardine won the draw prize.
Two• letters of thanki from ,the
Children's Aid Society at Sar-
nia in appreciation of the dona-
tions sent for Christmas were
read. The Club will be holding
their next meeting On Tuesday,
January 22.

Silver Cross Order of Canada,
Branch No. 4 R.C.A.F., is visit-
ing her son, F/L. Wm. M. and
Mrs. Bristow for a few months.

recently from a trip to France;
Belgium and Holland in an en-
deavor to trace her youngest
son's grave: He hes been miss/

Sabres being purchased from
Canada.
A total of 360 West Germans
will some to Canada for training
by the RCAF. West Germany
will ,purchase 225 Sabre Jets
from Canadair Ltd. of Montreal,
costing a total of $75,000,000.
First group of trainees will
arrive in Canada this week and
proceed to London for orienta-
tion courses before coming to
Centralia.
The remaining students will be
processed during the next 18
months. The German contingent
'will be one, of. the largest in
Canada's NATO program.
The officers were given a
briefing of the station by GC
A. M. Cameron, commanding
officer. They stayed at Central-
ia overnight and went to Lon-
don Thursday.
Each of the visiting dignitar-
ies was a member of the Luft-
waffe during the war; two were
combat pilots.
Present strength of the West
German air force is 14,000 and
a 'rebuilding program is under
way to increase it.
His wife predeceased him some
years' age. He is survived by
one brother, Frederick Hill, of
Toronto, and several nieces and
nephews.
