Speaker of Ontario' Legislature Dies
After Short Illness.
A despatch •from Toronto says : The
Hon. Joseph Wesley St. John, Speaker
of the Legielative Assembly since the ad-
vent of the present Government, died at
the Toronto General Hospital at 12
eA•lork noon on Sunday, after an Illness
of two weeks. Deceased was admitted
to the hospital on Sunday, March 24.

upon for melte appendicitis. He made a
salisfarlory recovery from the operation,
so much so that toward the end of the
first week the attending physicians con-
sidered him out of danger. On Sneday.
March 31, a chronic malady, dialietes,
from which he was also suffering,•sud-
denly took en an acute form. Frond that
time on his life was despaired of. On
Wednesday he rallied somewhat, the
improvement, being maintained theough-
out Thursday, On Friday, accercling to
the official report of the case, he had a
relapse, and gradually passed into a
condition known as diabetic coma. He
was unconscious h•om 2 o'cloch on Sun-
day morning until the hour of his death.
