WHY • STAY
RHEUMATIC?
The annual meeting of the Toronto
Huron County Old Boys, held at the
King Edward Hotel, last Friday
night, drew a large and enthusiastic
attendance of members. The treasur-
er's report showed a surplus of $135,
the
rest in the history of the asso-
eiati n, and it was decided o dedicate
$.-,U its a gift to the new public hospital
to ne opened at Goderich about the 1st
of December.
The date of the annual at home was
fixed for February 15, the event to be
heli at the Temple Building. Another
matter under consideration was the
erectionof a permanent structure on
the exha\ Oil grounds, to replace the
tent which has been found inadequate
to meet the demands of the thousands
of those who called to register their
names. A dteputntion was appointed
to wait on Manager Orr and ask er-
n:Neon to instal the building. The
idea, of the Old Boys is to erecta
bonding coaiing about $3,000, where
visitors from Huron county may fore-
gather to welcome and be Welcomed.

The four men charged with entering
a conspiracy to defraud the electors -
Messrs. George M. Reid, John O'Gor-
man, W. J. Mulloy and Daniel Wylie,
all of London -were today sant for
trial at the next Assizes,
An effort was Made' by the counsels
for the• defendants --Messrs, Curry',
Wilkie and Godfrey -to have the case
sent to trial in Middlesex county, but
Magistrate Denison would not consent
to this. The trial will, therefore, take
place in Toronto.
Mr. Reid's own hail was accepted in
the stmt of $500, while the other three
-Messrs. O'Gorman, Wylie and Mul-
loy-had to provide bonds of $2,000
each.
Mr. Albert H. Wheeler was surety
for Messrs. Itlullov and Wylie, and
Mr. Alfred Talbot for Mr. O'Gorman.
MAGISTRATE'S OUHFRVATIONB.
Magistrate Denison said he wanted
to give his reason whyall the defend-
ants should he sent for trial. Some
years ego there was a conspiracy to
affect elections all over the Province.
That conspiracy had its headquarters
in Toronto. It w:u+ not essential that
all the parties to that conspiracy
should know all the other parties.
There was no reason why the case
should go to London or Brockville,
other than that the majority of wit-
nesses were from those towns. As the
conspiracy had centred in Toronto the
case should he heard here, Mr. Heid
seemed to have been the treasurer for
the funds with which the conspiracy
was forwarded. Monies from all over
went tote his hands. The conspiracy
was widespread, although the investi-
gation did not show where the money
carne from with which the votes were
purchased. L
As regarded tate evidence of Prit-
chett and Collins, at great many wit-
nesses had corroborated their stat.e-
tnents ars to ballot -switching and the
purchase of votes. Having heard all
the evidence the impression on his
mind was that it was ample to send
all the defendants to trial. The rase
should consequently go to trial at the
next Assizes in Toronto.
