The hog situation is quite unsettled this week, and packers are all at sea in an effort to size up the situation. Drovers state that farmers aro holding back in expectation of higher prices, and tliEZ--statemeng seems to bo sustained in a measnre by the fact that re- ceipts aro running, so far this week, about one- fourth below the normal. Whatever the cause may be ja holding back of hogs ready for mar- ket, &lin actual shortage in supplies in the counts's). the faet remains that the number of hogs coming into Toronto is much below the expeotation of packers, and as a consequence, competition between packers has again become active,_and prices have been forced up a notch.
