The conclusion that the emotional

the intellect must, withogt fell, wander
into the pit of error; that the only Way
to come to religious truth is to shut the

The thinker constantly is being warn-

Two Similar Parables.— The Parable
Of the Great Supper, which forms tho
text of this lesson, is pert of the con-

table, the first portion of which we
studied in last Sunday's lesson. This
visit to the home of one of the chide of
the Pharisees belongs, as we, noted In
our hest lesson, to the period of the
Perean ?ministry, probably some months
prior to the final arrival of Jesus at
Jerusalem, just precedbig fete last Week
og his life. [Atter, •at the time et his
final great struggle with the autheri-
ties in Me capital city, on the eve of hLs
passion. Jesus spoke another parable
very eirnilar to this one, namely, the
Parable of the Royal Marrhige Feted

thew is comment of Jesus on an at-
tempt to arrest him, and tells of rebel-
lious subjects of 4) great king put to
deeth for insulting and killing their
sovereign's messengers ; the parable in
our present leeson is a comment of
Jesus 'on a remark made by another
guest at the Pharisee's table and tens
of pereons who, through indifference,

ginning was made at Letchworth ; how
six acres were first taken on a nine
hundred and ninety-nine years' lease,
14 houses started, and'sp.ake of the
alacrity with which the co-operative
method of t housing had caught on.
Another alx acres were afterwards
taken, on whieh 32 houses were nearly
completed. Later, another seven aeres
were taken, and by the end of August
71 houses would be complepd. These,
with a few houses on detached plates of
land on the estate, would make no in
all required by the Tenants' Society in
'about 18 months, and would be worth
about $150,000. The distinguishing
feature of co-partnerShip in housing was
that ownership was common, not indi-
vidual. A house obtained through a
building society was a man's own ; but
he had to take all the risks attending
such preperty. 11 his employment left
the diStrict in which he resided, his
house might become a burden, and
even a serious loss to him. In the Gar-
den City Tenants, Limited, he was en-
tirely relieved of this tretividual respon-
sibility tor a particular house.

THE ALL-ROUND SHEPHERD.
must- not ooly be a good keeper of
sheep, brit he must also understand the
importance and art of good breeding.
It Is here that he addresses himself to
the conditions which point to the vigor
and type of ins flock. He should have
as a etandard a definite type, and by
skill, ingenuity and judgment persist,
ently aim at his type.
In fine wool types the low carriage,
the blocky carcase, the square quarters,
the broad, stout. loin and back, the
strong heart and tbeelorlohtnese of the
eye are not aceidents, but results.
Such results as will be understood by
every skillful shepherd as being pro-
duced by definite causes. A flock built
upon this basic principle of skillful
breeding,. -followed by regular and in-
telligent attention wtli not only delight
the shepherd's heart in general ap-
pearances, but will give .him good rea-
son to hope for reward Mettle good
coin of the realm.
A daily visit from the shepherd,
change from field to field as often as
conmeon may suggest, access to living
water, supplied with salt at all times,
provided with shade or *eller from
heat, a field ot ivelegrown grass re-
served for late fall or Winter pasture,
are conditions which should be pr6vided
for every flogit. In winter they should
.be_grovidere. with. some succulent toed,
such as roo-W-Or-
grains such as corn, oats and bran.
As roughness plenty ef clover or COW -
pea hay should be fed. No man should
ever attempt to feed sheep through the
whiter on timothy hay. I do not think
he can do so -without great disaster.
Where conditions justify it, 1 . suggest
that lambs should come in February, as
the early lamb has every adveintage over
the late one, The lambing season is al -
Ways an interesting time for the shep-
herd. lt is the one titre in the year
when the flock ,deservee the most and
best of care. Negiecr is exceedingly
coetly at such a erne. Every morning
the new arrivals with their dams should
be separated from the flock, placed in
another apartment ot the barn arse
given spacial care until they have a
good start on the journey of lite.
If you would have plenty of milk for
the lambs when they come, hegin to
feed with this end in view six weeks or
two months before their arrival. In-
crease theeflow of milk by turning the
ewes on a field of rye, grown especially
for the purpose. I believe every man
who handles eheep should seek to be a
good shepherd. Somehow 1 have the
feeling that every good shepherd is a
gentleman of fine Instinct, noble bear-
ing, whose high calling not only hos
the riproyar , but the blessing of the
Great Shepherd. Such a shepherd will
represent to a high .degree the flne fac-
ulty tif bringing his flock up to the
highest standard of both merit and pro-
fit.

remonstrated with his bride, and as he
put her behavior down, not to the true

girl into hysterics. On her recovery the
couple departed unmarried. Nor were

A clever burglar's ripsc, stiuw,ng care-

was recently reported tu i:ie
It is the custom of a bilSillea, who
-resides at Brixton, and has hie 'Alice in
Queen Victoria Street, London, to leave
horue every morning and not rennet
until dinner. Recently hiS wife
ceived an anonymous letter, which in-
formed her that her husband, instead of
working in his office. frequently went
to a Charing Cross lea -shop worn -
pained by a young lady. ity the same
post the husband received a letter which
gave the information that, while he was
at his office, his wife spent, her time at
a certain tea-shop in the neighborhood
of Charing Cross.
Husband and wife, bent on catching
each other red-handed, hastened to
Charing Cross, and proceeded to the
tea-shop indicated the elionymous
letters. Judge oi thew surprise when
they came face to [eye There was
"Keee people from crOwding around
the patient, as they exclude freSh air,
and don't give a stimulant before the
patient can swallow.
"When breathing has commenced
then the thing to do immediately after-
ward is to restore the body hea,$. Alarm
blankets should be wrapped about the
body and bottles of hot water or hot
bricks applied. The head should be
warmed nearly as fast as the body, or
else convulsions may result. Rubbing
the body vigorously with the hand er
warm .cloths, or slapping the fleshy
parts may assist to restore warmth.
"As soon as the patient can swallow
give hot coffee, tea or milk. Beware of
giving too much spirits, lest depression
may result. Get the patient in a warm
bed and have plenty of fresh air."
Dr. Dixon offers these as a few sug-
gestions which. he hopes, may save
some lives during the present vacation.
LIVE STOCK NOTES.
Do not mit the young stock in an out-
of-theevay pastize where they are sel-

unmanageable unless you go to them

the second floor. Sleeping during the
day, they used an alarm clock to
awaken them at seven o'clock every

adjoining 'hbuse heard the alarm clock
several times, but thought that some of
e.Aymar's servants had returned

After about a week her suspiciOns

authorities. The burglars, however,
decamped before the arrival of the
police, taking nearly everything of
value which they could carry away.
They cut twenty pictures out of their

effects were removed in wagons. This
is by no means an isolated intance of
jovial burglars making their home for
days in the houses of other people.

A tremendous struggle has been pro-
ceeding in Australia for weeks between
the gambling gang centering round
Jack Wren, the wealthy proprietor of
the illegal totalLsator, and numerous
race courses, and the Puritan party,
whose champion is Mr. Judkins, editor
of the Australasian edition of the Re-
view of Reviews. The latter has con-
ducted such a relentless campaign that
organized bands of roughs break up
his meetings, necessitating police pro-
tection to prevent physical violence.
The struggle has forced the Bent
Goverement to promise drastic legis -
tenon and has rallied the forces of good
Government to the side of Mr. Jiidkins.
Mr. Wren recently adopted Tamany
tactics by distributing money among
the unemployed -and giving a number
work oe the race courses.
The general opinion is that the gang

outraged comeentlity, which realizes
that the time has Come when Austra-
