had his head bort. The Goderieb team
went on the ice at 8 o'clock sharp, but
the referee did not sbovv up until 15

The fancy dress ball under the aus-

D. 0. E., in Oddfellows' Hall, Thurs-
day of last week, was exceedingly suc-
cessful, as regards the things that de-
pended nn the committee, and fairly
so as regards the receipts sohie IMO his
ing added to the hospital fund. The
hall was nicely dressed in the chapter
color% and flags, and the fancy cos-
tumes were as varioed as the present
winter has been in Goderich. There
were some nice dresses, three or four
being exceedingly so, and many were
the compliments the wearers received.
The Blackstone orchestra furnished a
nice musical programme, and shortly
after midnight an exceedingly ap-
pedal ng supPer was charmingly served.
A large and attentive audience as-
sembled in the Temperance Hall last
Sunday at the usual Sunday afternoon
afternoon Gospel Temperance meeting,
which was addressed by Jas. Mitchell.
At the back Df the platform hung a
large streamer upon which was in-
scribed the words, "Our Motto, 'Save

seemed to draw his inspiration as he
made an earnest appeal to parents on
the great responsibilities resting upon

speaker will addrees himself specially
to young men. The Blackstone Or-

little girls will sing a 0!lett. Every-
body welcome.
On Saturday 'night and Sunday
morning the rain and the thaw raised
the river enough to cause the slush ice

however, it, jammed against the trentle

way, only the ends being left to show
where it once stood. As soon rut it
broke away most of tbe etioks were
tam tied south near the bosd house row,

on the bottom and the current forced
a passage along Attrill'a banks, by
which route most of the waterentared
