The London Road Society roulades the tows/hip of McGillivray, Uabsene, Btddielph, Stephen, Hay, fad part of Tuakt/srnith. From a report 01 the Show of this Society of October, 1846, it would appear that James Murray, Esq , of Hay. did touch to forward ill i•tere•ts, a well as Mr. Bell,—Mr Msrray had 12 prrtisi• rams, Mr. Bell 6, and Mr. Lamb, of (l,borne, 7. The premiums then awarded animated to £46 10s. including ploeghu,g. This year Meows. Murray, Balker ill, Bissett, Wlutrtord, and lamb obtaiwd r I premiums. The operation of the Dlstriet Society at Goderich, (begun in Spring of 1842,) ars con6sed to • limned local- ity—chiefly Goderich and Colebor.s; for the rx*rems distance of the District town from either the township of the Loadow Road, or the townships in the neighborhood of Stratford, preclude, i• some degree, an extension of its i.flnence, though its rules embrace the whole District. But what I mean is, that the unfortunate efti,ua Thule position (ex. r. as John O'Grnau in Scotland.) puts it out of the power of the farmers of the southwest and east ends of the District from ' vallis( themselves of its advantages, unless it be ■t some inconvenience and expense,—besides the damage on judging of the article• which might be exhibited. The Stratford Society (commenced in Decem- ber, 1841,) iscl.des Notal. and South Easthope, Downie and Ellice. The townships of Fallar- tor. •pd Logan furnish no numerous competitory ■ e yet t and the village of Mitchell is • very 6t place for exh biting • society for these town- ships : and it has been a matter of surprise here that M ilugh K. It may not be out of place now, to give here a recapitulation of the various amounts sw•arded as Premiums by the several Societies in the District 01 iloron for 1849. Perhaps it may be thought as an infringement onthe duties of the Secretary of the District Society, but 1 do not suppose that he will raise ray objections on the heed of elle endeavouring *o elucidate any facts to sheer the importance of Agricultural Socie- ties : and be the Premiums large or small, yet when • competing spirit is ,hews es nmifyiag itself throughout the District, the same should be eneearsged.
