They must be nicely gift wrapped, too. Children enjoy giving presents as much as they enjoy receiving them, They have not yet become sophisti cated and are as natural as can be. At Christmas adults become children again. They take off their wrappings and unashamed do natural, childlike things. Looking for appropriate gifts becomes a national passion. We get a lot of fun out of making others happy and by giving gifts to all sorts of good causes as well as to our friends. Christmas is the time of the year when we can be supremely happy. It commemorates the great event in his tory, the birth of the founder of Christianity. It is a birthday holiday, and a time when the child spirit reigns supreme. Through the years certain customs, practices and goings-on which have no connection with Christmas, have in the public mind become associated with its celebration, These have often obscured the meaning of the Holy Day. But more and more, thoughtful1" men and women are coming to realize the religious significance of the cele bration. Make Christmas Christian. Be careful of your habits and avoid ex travagances. Drinking is dangerous and might easily be the cause of un happiness and sorrow. What a Christmas for the family if parents are sleeping off the effects of a party when Santa comes. When all is said and done Christ mas is basically and profoundly a re ligious experience. It celebrates not only the birth of a child but the birth of an idea. Today, the place is known as Demre, province of Antalya, where his church may still be found and one may yet hear of the generous acts which made his life a great legend and gave him the “.Santa Claus” character we all know today. It is said that Saint Nicholas, a man of great virtue and piety, became the patron saint of boys when he restor ed to life the sons of a rich Asiatic, who had been murdered by a robber innkeeper while they were enroute to school at Athens. It is said that he was warned, of the crime in a dream but was unable to reach the, inn in time to prevent the murders. He re stored the boys to life through prayer and the murderer confessed his crime. “Good King Wenceslas” was born in 1907, son of the Christian King of Bohemia, He met his death on September 28th, 929. The incident in the well-known Christmas carol was typical of his Christian works of mercy. —Central Press Canadian You will likely pay more for your Christmas tree this year.
