The meeting opened by repeating the Mission Band Purpose, A short worship . period followed and Barrie Mulvey took charge of the business. Minutes were read and approved and 26 answered the roll call. The meeting closed with the Mis­ sion Band hymn, followed by prayer in unison. The primary class went to the other room where Mrs. West read, "The Boy with the Busy Walk,” from the new study book. Mrs, Doubledee read the first story. "Skinny’s Pal," to the seniors and told of some of the home mission work in Canada. Games were enjoyed by all before going home. Personal Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Pyke and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fitch. The only people who never fail are those who never try.—Ilka Chase. Edward Johnston Was (Former Resident Eldward Johnstpn, R.R. 2, Blenheim, died Saturday, November 12th, in the Public General Hospital, Chatham, at the age of 88, He had been in fail­ ing health for a year and a half. Born in Wingham, son of Robert Johnston and Mary Query, he farmed for a number of years in Saskatche­ wan. On retirement in 1939, he mov­ ed to Blenheim and took up residence on McGeorge street, He was a mem­ ber of Blenheim Anglican Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs, Mary Proctor, of Saskatoon, Sask.; Mrs, Paul DeMepster (Violet) of Blenheim; and Mrs. Hector Bourdeau (Myrtle) of Pain Court; and two sons, Albert of Windsor and Bob of Blen­ heim, Funeral services were conducted from the Bowman Ford funeral home, by Rev. H. F. Southcott, Interment was in Evergreen ceme­ tery. When they reached the station, heavily laden with luggage, the hus­ band said, “I wish I’d brought the piano." His wife answered, "I don’t consider your sarcasm funny.” “I’m not trying to be funny," said the husband, "I’ve just remembered I left the tickets on it.” Grand Superintendent At Lebanon Chapter At the fast regular convocation of Lebanon Chapter No. 84 G.R.C., Rt. Ex, Comp. Thomas Burke made his official visit to his home chapter, The officers, assisted by past principals, exemplified the R.A.M. degree in a very creditable manner. During the evening Rt, Ex. Comp, Burke had the honour of presenting V. Ex. Comp, Kenneth Saxton with a grand chapter regalia donated by the companions of the chapter jn recogni­ tion of his services to Lebanon Chap­ ter. There were visitors present from Lucknow, Palmerston and Paisley. At the close a delightful lunqh was served which was enjoyed by all present. OWN TEAR GAS OUSTS POLICE Chatham’s “finest" were* in tears last week but not of their own accord. Early ip the afternoon two mem­ bers of the city’s law enforcement body were examining a tear gas bomb which exploded in the inspector’s of­ fice driving those in the city police station, weeping, into the street. The city fire department was called to administer to the unusual situation and only a short time elapsed before the office Staff, including magistrates, clerks and a justice of the peace were able to return to work. BQILER FAILS,-LOAN HEATERS TO HOSPITAL Listowel residents and merchants rallied to the aid of the Xdstowel Me­ morial Hospital patients recently when the furnace boiler failed leav­ ing the building without heat as tem­ peratures hit the skids. Electric heaters were loaned to the institution to help keep temperatures in the building from falling. The heaters were rushed to the hospital when first word of the boiler failure went out.
