Meeting The regular meeting of the man’s Association of Fordwich United Church was held Thursday afternoon in the church parlors. Mrs. Geo. Richards, the president, opened the meeting with the hymn, “How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds,” followed by the Lord’s prayer. Mrs. Wm, Wilson read the Scripture, John 14: 1-15 Mrs. Wm. Campbell gave the lesson thoughts, on "The Way.” Jesus said “I am' the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Prayer followed and another hymn was sung. The woman of the Bible for this month was Deborah, and this topic was given by Mrs. Geo, Richards. The meet­ ing closed with the Mizpah benedic­ tion. Lunch was served by Mrs. W, Cooper, Mrs. Elmer Harding and Mrs. F. Hambly. Personals Several from the community attend­ ed the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Bryans, in Har­ riston, on Saturday. Mr. Alvin Winger, of Gormley, is visiting at present with his daugh­ ter, Mrs. Earl Cober and Mr. Cober. Miss' Dorothy Campbell and Mr, Gordon Lowry, of Hamilton, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Gibson, of Harriston, were Sunday guests with Mr, and Mrs. William Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Winston left last week for Fresno, California, where the/ will spend the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Royden Devitt visited one day last week in Kitchener. Mrs. Fred Hambly and Mrs. Lyle Simmons attended the trousseau tea of Miss Florence Schneider in Kitch­ ener, whose marriage to Mr. Max Hambly takes place next Saturday. Mrs. Earl Moore, postmistress, re­ ceived a silver pin for 25 years’ service at the local post office last Friday, The presentation was made by Mr, H. F. Murray, of Walkerton, postal inspector of this area. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Doig and two sons spent Sunday in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs, Robt. Hibberd and family visited, on.,Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob: Sanders, at Neustadt. Don’t forget the colored slides of Holland in the Fordwich Hall on Monday, November 14th'. The Fordwich W.I. packed a bale last week for Korea weighing 216 pounds. Another one for children will be sent soon.Rev. W. J. McClure, of Molesworth and Gorrje, • recently from Ireland, will be in, charge of the service on Friday^ November 11th at the United Church, Fordwich at 11 a.m. Legion- aires fall in at the hall at 10.30 a.m. Mr. and Mts. Keith Ridley and daughter, of London, spent several days with Mrs. Earl Ridley last week. Quite a number of Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary members attended the service in St. Stephen’s Church, Gorrie, last Sunday afternoon. Rev. Russel took as his text, “Put on the whole armour of God,” and the choir sang a lovely anthem. The members of Trinity Church were pleased when the sum of $185.00 was realized at the bazaar and supper Inst week. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Browne and Mr. Roy Simmons spent Saturday in Toronto, Mrs. Earl Moore attended a turkey banquet at the Royal Inn, Harriston on Friday night with the area corres­ pondents of the Kitchener-Record. Friends of Mr. Marshall (Shorty) Woolcox will .be sorry to hear that he has been confined to bed with pneumonia. We wish him a speedy "recovery, Mrs. Stan Bride spent one day week in Guelph. The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and adopted as read on motion of Haskins and Allan, McMichael-Gibson—That We give the Fordwich Cemetery Board a grant of $300.00. Carried. McMichacl-Gibson—That we agree to share the cost of moving the tele­ phone line back on the Sanderson sideroad. Carried. McMichael-Gibson—That we renew the Fidelity Bond and Robbery In­ surance policy. Carried. Haskins-AUan—-That we proclaim the 11th of November a holiday and ask the citizens to attend the memo­ rial service in the Fordwich United Church at 11 a.m. Carried. Allan-Gibson—That We accept the petition of Edward Dietz to have a branch of the Bolton Drain repaired. Carried. Haskins-McMichael—That we give the Lakelet Cemetery Board a grant of $25.00. Carried. Gibson-McMichael — That the amendment to By-law No. 12-48 of tlm Township af Howick re rate of pay for D.R.O. and poll clerks as read the third time be finally passed. Carried. Haskins-Gibson—That the road ac­ counts' as approved be paid. Carried. Allan-Haskins—That the amend­ ment to By-Law No. 12-53 prohibiting dogs running at large in the deer season for 1955 as read the third time be finally passed. Carried. Wilson, superintendent of the Mission Band of the Presbyterian Church presided for the meeting held last Friday evening in the Sunday School room of the church, Judy Wil­ son read the Scripture lesson, George Gaunt led in prayer, Mary and Kath­ leen Fisher sang "The City of God,” and Sarah Caswell gave the Offertory prayer. Miss Williamson, returned missionary from India, gave an inter­ esting address, illustrated with colour­ ed slides of her work in India. Mrs. prayer. Lunch was served and all en­ joyed the social time together. N. Mr, and Mrs. Joe Thompson, of Goderich, were Sunday visitors ai the home of his brother, Mr. John R. Thompson. Mr, and Mrs, Elwin Chamney and daughters, Dorothy and Marilyn, of Wingham, were Sunday visitors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Chamney. It was a very great disappointment to miss the wonderful celebration of last year, but illness in the house had, first claim on my time. Your special Anniversary Edition covered the sub­ ject to my satisfaction and extra copies were much appreciated by friends of other years, from Cali­ fornia to Vancouver and even in Tor­ onto, where I found the old town was not forgotten, but no Advance-Times bringing in its interesting story. James Vittie and George Inglis spent Friday and Saturday in Toronto, where they attended the 40th reunion of the 58th Battalion.
