To the Free and 'Inde-
pendent Electors of the
North Baling of Huron
GENTLEMEN,
Under ordinary circumstances the term
of the present Proviovoal Parliament would
terminate in a few days, but since the lar
general Election, very creat political an
constitutional chew:, s have taken plare.whic
colts for an immediate dissolution of Parka
went.
These changes were Lund necee.ary, in
consequence of the many difficulties arising
out of the proper-,canyin;( on, of responsible
government under the (;pion Act of 1.10.
In 186.) a Cosdi, ion Got erument was form-
ed fur the I.urpose of des icing a remedy for
the existing evils, and a Uni. n of the British
North American Provinces was proposed and
.greed upon. -
Under thin arrangement we are to hare a
General Legislature and a Local Legislature,
theo
former r • charge e to have cl .r a of
matters of
General Interests, affecting the United 1'io-
rinces, and the latter to have charge of Local
matters.
Under these circumstances. I hive con-
sented at the request of many warm friends
of all political creeds in your riding to become
a Candidate for 'the Inc.! Legislature of
your riding, and as one who has resided
manyyeau In tbn north riding, and who
takes a deep 4Iteremt in its welfare, I hope i!
elected never to betvee the trail confided to
me.
My polities are to support the bands of
the coalition in carrying out honestly the in-
tentions Lf the Quebec scheme, and also to
support bcnest men and hottest measures,
and to do all in my humble ,ahitfty to as
v.nor the interests of your riding and the
welfare of this my native -country.
1 am well ■cquainlod with many in the
riding, but i shall shortly make it my bus-
iness to call meetings in your different town
shape, when I shall explain my principles in
detail and hope t t meet other aspirants for
bonnet when you can have an opportunity of
judging as to the respective capabilities of
the candidates.
i may say that i Pm an' edreirer of British
