HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Wingham Advance-Times, 1955-09-07, Page 8IhMK* Eight The Wingham Advance-Time*, Wednesday, September 7th, 1955 WHITECHURCH Graduation Meeting The ladies of Brick United Church met on Tuesday last at the church for the graduation meeting for the Baby Band members to the Mission Band. The president of the Mission Band, Barbara Coultes, presided and led in the Scripture reading. Douglas Coul­ tes and Clayton and Cameron Robin­ son presented a short skit, and Sandra Chamney led in prayer. Mrs. McRitchie, Baby Band super­ intendent, gave a short talk to the children on missionary work, and Mrs, Clarence Chamney had charge of the graduation exercises for Shar­ on Reavie, Gary Jamieson and Grant Coultes. They passed through the little gate and were welcomed by the Mission Band group, who sang, *‘Jesus Bids Us Shine,’’ and repeated the Mission Band Code, and gave a Bible alphabet presentation. Allan Carter was unable to be present. Cameron Robinson then read an ad­ dress and Mrs, Wightman was pre­ sented with a Bible, and Susan with a hymnary, as remembrances. Mrs. Wightman thanked them for the gifts and pronounced the benediction, and the ladies served lunch. Personals Mr. and Mrs. George Graham of Detroit, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John McGee. Mr. Roy McGee, of Kitchener, spent the week-end with his brother, Mr. Gordon McGee. Mr. and Mrs. John Purdon spent Thursday last at Tobermory, and Kenneth Purdon, of Orillia, spent the week-end with his parents here. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Purdon and family, and Mr, and Mrs. John Wood and baby Michael, of Detroit, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E, Purdon, of Lucknow, and relatives here and in Wingham. On Sunday the following attended a family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs, George Tiffin, the families from Detroit, Mr, and Mrs. A, E. Purdon, Mr. and Mrs. Athol Purdon and family; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mc­ Intyre, Grant and Billie; Mr, and Mrs. Jack Cleghorn and Ronald, of Wingham; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fal­ coner and Mr. and Mrs, Angus Fal­ coner and Allan. Mr. and Mrs, Archie Purdon attend­ ed the McCreary family gathering at Gorrie pn Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. David Cox, of Palmer­ ston, visited on Sunday with Mrs. Mao Ross and Miss Olive Terriff, and Bev. and Mrs, G. O. Cox and daughters, of Fonthill, spent the week-end there. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Gillespie and children, of Sarnia, spent the week­ end with Gillespie and Farrier rela” tives here. . Mr, and Mrs. E, H. Groskorth, Paul and Karen arrived home from Tor­ onto on Saturday after spending last week with relatives there.
